    Guys,

    I'm looking for a high-end Remington 700 bolt-action rifle (.308). Looking for the 700P, 700P LTR, or 700 Long Range Tactical.

Those of you that are out-and-about, do you happen to know if you've seen these at your local gun store? I've exhausted all of my local options and am planning a roadtrip this weekend.

    Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

I'm basically looking for a sub-MOA, 'sniper' class rifle.

If that's a $2K budget without the scope/bipod etc. just look around online for a beater Remington 700 receiver ($350-$400). Then buy a barrel blank ($300-$400) and pay a smith to put it all together. You'll come out under your $2K budget and have a rifle superior to the factory offerings.

That said, I had a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .223 which was a consistent .5 MOA performer with good ammo.

This is a way to go too, don't forget a nice stock. The 700P's i've had as well as my 5R shot nicely as well.

Kieslers is running a special for 26" 308 700 p for 740.00. Pretty good guns for the money imo.

XCR LRTAC's have been in short supply for some reason. I've got one in .223, but I checked 2 distributors right now and they are out....unless you want 338 Lapua (and I wouldn't wish that on anyone without a muzzle break).

I'm basically looking for a sub-MOA, 'sniper' class rifle.

I would suggest having your local gun shop order a 700 SPS Varmint in .308. That rifle has the 26" heavy barrel. You can then make any modifications you want and have the enjoyment of doing the project yourself.

Not a lot has to be done. Add a decent stock/chassis system chassis). (I like the Accuracy International chassis) which only requires an allen wrench to torque down the two mounting bolts. Add a nice bi-pod and if you want to replace the trigger, there are many replacement triggers for the 700. I like the Jewell trigger set to 1 lb. pull.

A good scope and bases will cost about as much (or more) than the rifle. The 700 SPS Varmint will do its job if you can do yours. Hand loads will give you the best groups, but I had good luck with Prvi Partizan 168 gr HPBT Match ammo as well.

You should be able to shoot 1/2 MOA groups without doing too much to the rifle.

I shoot a 416 without a muzzle break. It will make a man out of you.:D

Tried talking to the folks at Kieslers. If you're not a LEO, they're not interested in having you as a customer... period. :(

Which, in my opinion is a VERY poor business practice.

I don't know if that list includes a sps tactical aac-sd, but I did see a brand new one at a small gun shop in Greenfield (east side of Indy) just a few weeks back. The gun shop is Highsmith Guns.
