It depends on the rate of fire, how often you shoot the firearm, and how much you would need in an emergency. Slow firing guns, revolvers or single shots, I don't stock as much. Mag-fed weapons.... Load every mag, have enough to reload every mag, and that's your safety stock. Then buy more mags.

I have a .38/357 revolver and I don't have much ammo for it. I usually only shoot it when I take others to the range so they can try it out.

Same with my 35 Rem. I literally have about 4 boxes for it.

Not me. I'm often up at midnight, still pulling the handle. I want my ammo to be fresh! Lol

Even when I'm really sure of my regular loadings, I'm not completely sure that there is not some minor tweak that I should have done, before loading up 3000 rounds.
Was the AOL close to being problematic as the gun got dirty and hot?
Was the crimp so heavy that it cut the coating? So loose that setback is an issue?
+/- a tenth of a grain make any difference in accuracy or function, as the heat of the day and running the gun affected it?
Was case gaging only 20% of the loaded rounds adequate to insure 100% reliability?

You're no fun. Everything you do totally defeats the phrase "Spray and Pray"!

But seriously, I admire your fortitude and diligence to prepare ammo that leaves no doubt. Kudos my friend.

Why I like shotgun better. Less case prep. And just feed and pull.

Higher end machine and higher end dies would eliminate your worries on some of those things. All about how much you want to spend
If we all had the funds we would just pay vista to make our own ammo. Buying 100 millon rds at a time of exactly the load we want. Never reloading again.

No I like to reload its like jiffy pop. Almost as fun reloading as it is to shoot.

I laugh when I see some of the "arsenals" confiscated shown on the news.
I just shake my head when they talk about the "massive quantities " of ammunition and magazines, and think to myself, amateurs...
