IN/IL transfer???

OK legal beagles, I want to sell a gun to a guy with a FOID. Im told I can without FFL if i record and keep ALL information. True? False? Both?

You are transferring to his FFL.. the FFL will record all his info (FOID card #, etc as well as background check)

Er, no. That's incorrect. ALL interstate firearm sales must go through an FFL. When you purchase a long gun, you can go through an FFL in the purchasing state or in your own state. When you purchase a handgun, it must go through an FFL in your own state. I quoted the relevant statutes and ATF FAQ entries in the link in the second post.

When selling, when you hear two states in the fact pattern, send it to an FFL.
