I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

    1) Is it illegal (state or federal) to carry into a non-riverboat casino in Indiana?

    2) If it is not illegal, is wanding and/or metal detector likely?

    1) it's been discussed, I just don't remember what was concluded. sorry
    2) no wanding. pretty sure no metal detector either.
they do have lock boxes, ask the greeters/age checkers as you walk in, they will get you to the appropriate person.

Yes. But to their credit they have a pretty good system for taking care of your personal weapons while you are there.

immediately upon entering the front door of the casino you need to summon the host (if one isn't already greeting you). Notify them that you need to lock up your personal weapon and they will have you wait a moment while someone (for me it had always been the shift security head) comes to meet you. They will lead you to a back office with security lock boxes and have you secure your weapon. They will give you one key. At no time will they ask to handle your weapon. When done in the casino you simply ask a host to summon the security shift leader and they will reverse the process. Yes, disarming should be unnecessary, and yes I prefer to not go there, but when I do it is relatively painless.

ETA: I'd say that the chance of wanding is pretty low. I've never been wanded or seen someone at the entrance with a wand, but I have not attempted to carry concealed. I do as stated above.

    68IAC 1-7-1 prohibits firearms in a casino. 68IAC 1-1-13.4 says:
"Casino" means any facility where gaming is conducted under the jurisdiction of the commission under IC 4-33 or IC 4-35.
IC 4-35 is the statute concerning gaming at racetracks. IC 4-35 is the riverboat statute. So yes, firearms are illegal in casinos in Indiana.

    Yes, it is illegal.
No, there's no wanding or metal detectors.

However, you are to inform them at the door and they will get someone to take care of you. They want your firearm unloaded BEFORE you enter the casino. They are supposed to copy your DL and LTCH before locking up the firearm. When you are ready to leave, just tell one of the casino workers you need to retieve your firearm. They will radio for the person you need.

I've never had a problem there. The copies of your info is their policy. Most of the time you get someone who knows how to handle the situation, but sometimes you get one that only wants your DL.

I don't know what Rockhopper is talking about, they have NEVER handed me a key. I always walk in from the garage area, never the front... so maybe that's why it's different?

It is illegal for you to carry a firearm into a casino as noted in 68IAC 1-7-1 (as mentioned above) Unless you are a commissioned LEO, don't risk a felony arrest by trying to sneak a handgun by carrying "deep concealed". Check your firearm at the door with casino or leave it secured in your vehicle. u

I do believe that it is illegal to possess a weapon on a RIVERBOAT CASINO. Any casino that isnt considered a riverboat casino, I dont think the no firearms law applies. Not sure if Indiana Grand Racing Casino is considered a riverboat casino though...

It no longer just applies to riverboats, but any casino.

Can you point out where it is a felony? Also from my reading of it, only on duty officers whose sole purpose of being in the casino is in performance of their official duties can carry. Although I'm not sure how that would work with LEOSA and out of state/federal officers.

Is it a felony charge? Another stupid law we need to get repealed.

I can't find anything that makes it a felony or a misdemeanor. The best that I can find is that casinos are required to post a sign that states
"No weapons are allowed beyond this point. Failure to comply with this rule may result in immediate removal from the casino, immediate detention by security personnel, the imposition of civil penalties, or exclusion under applicable law."
I can't find any applicable law either in the IC or the IAC that provides for any civil penalties. :dunno:

ETA From further checking it seems they are allowed to impose civil penalties if your licensed under their regs or an employee of a licensee. IC 4-33-4-10.

So what's the deal with Indiana Grand in Shelbyville? I went with some friends last night, but before we went we called and asked how we check in a firearm. The person we were directed to said there is no place to check in a firearm at Indiana Grand and you are not allowed to carry a firearm into the casino. She told us to leave it in our car.
