We've all seen them, victims of abuse - bubba-ing beyond forgiveness. Some folks should not be allowed to own a Dremel.
I picked this up at a local auction not long ago. This is one of several "rescues" I've found over the years (cue Sara MacLaughlin music). Like this one, most have been too far gone to restore but great range guns and shooters. I was in line to check out when it came up and I hadn't looked at it before up close. It was announced as a Model 10 so I was surprised when I got a good look at it what was really there.
In reality it is a Model 1905 Military & Police, 2nd change revolver in .38 S&W Special, 4" barrel, 5 screw Sq butt, etc. Serial #740XX. Manufacture date would be 1906-1909. Among many of the abuses, a previous owner did an excellent job of fitting a full rib to the top of the barrel with the rear 2.75" or so rounded and tapered with a fine pebble finish to cut the glare. Then, almost as an afterthought, he slapped on a shotgun bead front and rough metal leaf fixed rear sight. Whole gun has been refinished. On the plus side, the action is very tight and smooth, grips are decent.
So for around $200 I got a great 100 year old plus range gun. She shoots very smoothly with 148 gr wadcutters hitting POA at about 15 yards. Being a pre-numbered model,+P is a no-no. Thankfully at the same auction I picked up two .30 cal ammo cans totally full of 148 gr wadcutter ammo loaded to a very mild level. Sometimes it is the poor lonely puppies that are the best.
