Several years back, I bought an old S&W Model 10 that was surplused out by the NY corrections system. One of my favorite things about it is that it came with an original heavy leather retention holster that looks like something a motorcycle cop in the 70s would have carried. Presumably, it was purchased as a package at the same time as the guns.

Courtesy of another INGOer, I just picked up a 1974 Colt Detective Special. I was hoping some of the old geezers of INGO could point me to reference images, information, or possible options for period-appropriate holsters. What kind of holsters would they have been issued with by agencies? What styles or features were common for regular use, or was it wide open buy-your-own?

Surely one of y'all is old enough to have been issued a department gun in 1956. Help the non-Medicare eligible out.

Haha. I knew we would get along well! But seriously. Bucheimer, Jay Pee, Bianchi (I think, not sure if they go back that far), Tex Shoemaker , Hunter, Safariland or Don Hume. Would all be period correct for the 1950’s FYI I’m not that old. Just a long time revolver guy
