So I just got a 7.5 inch, stainless, wood gripped, fixed sight old army. It is the classic three screw. I was wondering what kind of value that this has. Its mint, 45 cal, perfect barrel. It is VERY well taken care of.

The Ruger Old Army was never built with a transfer bar system.
Not being able to see it I would just have to guess on the price.
    Between $300 and $695.

Are you talking about the 1860 Army reproduction?

The Ruger Old Army was only made in stainless steel, as far as I know. But I am pretty sure.

They sold new for just under $300. Since they stopped making them, they are probably worth $300 even though you could buy them used for $150 or so not too long ago.

They need a .457 ball to be accurate.

The only three screw transfer bar guns were the Blackhawks. 300 if you are lucky they really have no use and are for a narrow consumer population.

    OK,
The Ruger Old Army was made first in blue for a couple of years then they started making it in both blue and stainless. They continued in blue and stainless until Ruger stopped production.
Some of them had brass trigger guards and back straps.
Since Ruger stopped production, the price of an Old Army in new or excellent condition has went up considerably. The ones with the 5 1/2" barrel are bringing even more.

Pops had one in blued, shot it and put it away after cleaning.
It still got some rust on internals.
Be glad you got a stainless one.
IIRC all Old Armys have screws instead of New Model pins.

A 3 screw transfer bar gun is a 3 screw Blackhawk or Superblackhawk that went back for the safety parts change.

On the SBH the safety style hammer was thin spur :(

Load one, skip one, load 4 more. Screw that safety crap.

I found that alot of people convert theirs back to fixed sights. Are they more desirable from factory now with fixed sights

I keep coming back and reading this.
    Sorry, I just don't understand.
What do you mean about changing the sights "back to fixed" on a Ruger Old Army?

I found a site for someone wanting to convert the adjustable sights to fixed sights. I guess thats what it takes to compete in the Frontiersman class in percussion competitions. I just wanted to see if anyone knows about what sight style is more desired

Now THAT sounds like a lot of work and expense.
I just can't see someone doing all that to a gun unless there isn't one like they want anywhere on Earth.
    Thank you for the link.
