Our 4H club has several Savage Mk II rifles. All the mags spew the loaded rounds out thru the receiver as they are inserted into the mag well. Tried stainless steel mags, not much better. We started keeping our thumb atop the mag as it is inserted, helps a little.

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

I had a couple of different Savage rifles: loved them!
For the money, a great value.
But, I had the same issue: drove me nuts!
You never knew when it was going to happen!

Don't remember how or if I ever found a work-around.
Ended up keeping a couple of CZ rifles instead.

It's a long-time known issue, but I don't know the solution. It does it on some of the mags for my 22 magnum, but not others. You might try looking over on the Savage sub-forum at rimfirecentral.com. I'm sure there's a solution by now, as I read about it, and experienced it, over 10 years ago.

Had the same problem with my daughters savage 17hmr. Took a pair of pliers and squeezed the top of the mag til it held rounds. Then tossed it on the desk. Rounds popped out so I squeezed it until it would hold the rounds. Took some gorilla glue and dabbed the slots on the side of the mag to keep the body from separating anymore. Mag feeds fine now.

I've heard these are the answer https://17hmrmag.com/ for the 22 magnum Savage issues.

Came across them in some of my research. I believe @Ruger_Ronin purchased some for his 22 magnum and fixed him right up.

Thanks for this. I'll be looking into these. My Savage 22 WMR is one of my most accurate rimfires. Once shot a .15" CtC 5 shot group at 50 yards with the 45 gr Hornady load. It's taken it's share of varmint.
