Scopes for pellet rifles

I've got a Ruger Impact Max .22 pellet rifle that I bought and it has a rail mounted on it and also has iron sights. What would be a good scope to put on it for ground squirrels and rabbits around our garden and yard? I'm not wanting to buy anything high end but would like something that will last. I've also got a Gamo .177 pellet rifle with a scope and rhe scope is junk.

Would a red dot work with the pellet rifle?

I have a UTG 3-9x with lit reticle on my .22 Benjamin Mayhem. I believe it is the Bugbuster model. I rarely use the lit reticle and they may not actually sell them any longer. Find a pellet that your air rifle is accurate with and be aware that changing pellet weights can change your vertical impact point quite a lot, even at relatively close distances. My rifle likes H&N Hornets at 16.2 grains. A red dot can work, but you get what you pay for.

You'll want a scope designed for Springer rifles like yours. Typical rifle scopes tend to get the internals shaken apart by the recoil from the spring.

I've had good luck with BSA airgun scopes on my spring guns. Inexpensive and reliable.

I've got a cheaper JTS on my Benjamin. Paid $69 at the time (few years ago). Been a good one. 3x9 42m.

The UTG Bugbuster is Pellet gun rated, and is a good scope for around $100.

I had never considered this. Would not normal rifle scopes have at least as much force in. A center fire cartridge

A springer air rifle recoils forward and a powder burner recoils rearward.
A airgun scope the crosshairs are usually supported at the front and rear.
I have destroyed several scopes over the years on springers.
PCP airguns recoil like a conventional firearm.
