    Is it a good read
So far, yes. Because of when they were written, they offer not only edification but insights into how the early church was organized. I am amazed at how much of their letters are quotations from scripture.

    The book of useless information.
    Loaded with tidbits like this....
The main Library at Indiana University sinks more than an inch every year because when it was built, engineers failed to take into account the weight of all the books that would occupy the building

It's a fun rumor that my dad said he first heard when he was an undergrad in the early 1970s. Unfortunately, it's nonsense. They had to remove solid rock when they built the thing. And if it had actually sunk an inch every year since 1970, the front doors would now be 4.5 feet below the grand front steps.

Seems that book is truly full of useless info.

We've all seen the movie, but I like the description of the book on Wikipedia: "The novel is set during the year 2025, in which the nation's economy is in ruins and America has become a totalitarian dystopia."

Stephen King must've been given advance warning back in 1982.

I just finished "Grant" by Ron Chernow.

Excellent book. It is unvarnished truth about his victories and defeats. It brings Grant alive as a real human being with real weaknesses and struggles, which only makes his victories, both on the battlefield and in the Presidency, more impressive.

His greatest weakness was not alcohol. He was likely an alcoholic, but it never affected his work and he eventually got it under control. His greatest weakness was his trusting nature.

His greatest strengths are that he did little to nothing out of ego and nothing at all out of fear. He thought strategically, not just tactically. He thought several battles ahead to the end game, not just battle to battle. He was the only Civil War general to do that.

This is a dark fantasy novel series and it's one that's not an easy read. Lots of characters with odd names that are difficult to remember who's who (handy cheat sheet at beginning of the book) and lots of factions. I like that there's no "good guys" and "bad guys" side. All the factions are mostly looking out for their own interests, some more likeable than others and some more clearly authoritarian than others, but all factions have sympathetic individuals you want to like and some you want to hate as well as a healthy mix of folks you aren't sure on.

I'm not quite done with book 1 and have already ordered book 2.
