The recommendation used to be to replace the recoil spring on a 1911 every 800-1000 rounds. Makes sense, there is a lot of mass moving around. I have no idea what it is today with flat wire spring, the 2 spring setup in some compacts, or just with polymer frames.
Anybody know the modern rule of thumb?

    Depends on the gun.

My carry G17 spring gets changed out every 5k, sometimes a slight bit more.

My comp G24 gets gets a new spring every 4k.

Not to highjack the thread, but are there any specific signs to look for to see when you need to replace the recoil spring? Obviously if it breaks, things like that, but anything to look for before this happens?
