    I wouldn't be able to chamber an 8mm in a 7mm chamber, would i?
Correct, if you have an 8mm Mauser cartridge and it chambers in your rifle then you have an 8mm Turk Mauser. I haven’t seen any Turk Mausers in 7mm but there might be some unicorns out there. The fired brass sure looks like 8mm to me.

I want the record to reflect BigRed had the opportunity for a joke, and passed on it in effort to avoid hijacking the thread.

    Now, back to your thread.
Go away and play with your toy indian lil boy.

Its coming home, because my life was not complete without a slice of rectifiers and zenier diodes in there life.

He could just take a loaded round and put the 7mm bullet in the end of the barrel. One will know right away if its 7 or 8mm.

OP, did you hit what you were aiming at, and leave a round hole in it when you shot those?
    Yes, and no.
I did hit what I was aiming at (6"x6" treated post) , but it keyholed into the face.
I did not hit it squarely, so there's a chance that it just laid over on impact.

It keyholed.... That's a new addition to this quandary.
No longer a quandary, thanks to Ingo.
No, it is not safe, not to do what I did anyway.
I loaded, and SHOT, 7x57 rounds through an 8x57 chamber!

No wonder the primers backed out.
Been a long time since I've done something that stupid.
I seem to have gotten away with it, but it has been a(nother) wakeup!

That makes more sense. As Wolfhound said, I'd never heard of a Turk Mauser in 7x57.

Yeah, it was not easy to admit, but I've been stupid before I guess.
    Already trashed that fired brass.
Figured even if I could resize them back to 7mm, they might already be weak from too much working.

Lets see what 8mm does when you shoot it. I still question that chamber.
I am of the understanding that both of those cases are the same. If thats true why did they have excess room to flop around?

    Do you have 8mm ammo?

Not loaded, and with the recent move/remodeling project, it will still be a while before I get my loading room set up.
I might buy a box or two, if I can find some.

    Seriously?
I would not have guessed that the cartridge bodies would be the same.
So the only differences would be, the neck size and shoulder angle?
That seems like a recipe for problems.

I would bet that Brian has it. If you want a few new ones to shoot, PM me a shipping address and I will ship you a few. I think the new stuff my son has are Privi.

I'll look in my books tomorrow. Thats what I think???? I've been wrong before.
I'm not real big on knowledge with the metric rifle rounds.
Let see what the geriactric old man gentleman of the reloading room says. @Leadeye

A quick look is that the 8mm brass will hold about 3 more grains of water over the 7mm. I would guess that with that and if the shoulder is a bit different that's how the primer backed out a bit.

It happens, we were shooting a 40 cal P16 pistol a;ong with others a few years ago and when we were picking up brass we all went WTF happened here?
We had 100 9mm's that had been shot out of that Para P16 40 cal pistol.
They were really ballooned out. Not one case failed. We never did figure out which one of us shot that ammo.

Strange as it seems I've never owned anything in 7mm.
