I've never watched an Obsma press conference before - but am now tuned into Obama's press conference detailing his planned executive action(s). Gabby Gifford is there being trotted out as a "poster child" and he's going on and on about her "ordeal."

"30,000 Americans die by gun each year" according to Obama. He is saying we are the only "advanced country" that has this kind of violence. "There is a general concencus on what needs to be done." But he didn't define what that is. All rhetoric so far.

"Vast majority" want action. Again, not defined. He stated he believes in the Second Amdment. Said he taught constitutional law do he knows about it. He is saying a "majority of gun owners agree something must be done. Now going into the background check initiative. Stating this is not a slippery slope. Stating 1 out of 30 buying a gun on a website are buying guns that have a criminal history.

90% of Americans support universal background checks according to Obama. Most NRA members support universal background checks according to him. He just admitted universal background checks would not have prevented last several shootings.

We can't save everybody but we can save "some." Said after Connecticut passed background checks gun deaths were reduced by 40%. Keeps making analogies to auto accidents, research, etc. Just said guns are "inherently dangerous." Stated the gun lobby is holding America "hostage."

    He is going to:

Anybody in the business of selling firearms must get a license and do background checks.
Taking steps to make background checks more efficient - implementing a new system.

Going to add 200 new agents

Going to help people with mental illness. Says Obama care covers this. Going to spend $500 million.

Going to share mental illness records with background check agencies. (What about HIPPA ?)

Going to develop new technology to insure "safer guns." Proposing "lockable" guns same as your phone or iPad.

Just mentioned high capacity magazines, semi autos, and other "bad things." He stated right to peaceful assembly is comprised by "gun violence." Now is literally wiping a tear from his eye (for effect). Sic. He is rallying people to vote against politicians who don't favor gun control measures. "We need to save our kids."

Now just brought in ending slavery, LGBT rights are a struggle, and women's rights were a long term struggle. Repeating what actions a "sensible country should go."

He referred to the Constitution as the/that "paper". He mentioned protecting other constitutional rights by limiting gun access, but decried the voting down of the terrorist watch list bill. Selective interpretation much? What about the 5th and 14th amendment protections of due process?

Never-you-mind that you have the whole thing backwards! The 2nd protects the rest.

    .
The DNC leadership needs to double down on this with hilly and bill, last time they demonized gun owners and worked themselves in to this much of an emotional state they lost both houses of congress.

He knows absolutely NOTHING about guns and is only doing this as a ploy. Now let's see what Congress has to say about it.

What determines a person to be a seller or in business? Does it mean we cant sell a gun to another individual without going througb a ffl or do you have to sell a certain number to be cosidered a seller? Kinda leaves a gray area there

Are you insinuating that being shot through the head front to back, 5 months in the hospital followed by more months of rehab and then having to resign your job anyway are not an 'ordeal'?

US Code will have to be rewritten:

As a reminder, 18 U.S. Code § 921 (a)(21)(C) defines "engaged in the business" as:
"a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms"

    They will get to that...

I don't think the OP was insulting HER, rather the USE of her as part of a larger discourse. It's the same reason I get upset when politicians parade children on stage as they sign documents.
Her tragedy certainly was an ordeal. By the same token, a pro-gun politician from either party could have a man/woman/child on stage who used a gun in self-defense.

So the same crowd that keeps telling us that the Founding Fathers never intended the Second Amendment to be used for anything but muskets because that is all they had **cough**Puckle gun**cough**Girandoni air rifle**cough**Belton flintlock**cough** obviously envisioned that these muskets would be protected by biometric measures

Also with the POTUS being surrounded by survivors of mass shootings I do have one question - which one of these EOs would have prevented the shooting?
