    Arriving

I arrived at LMW's place in the early afternoon and after handshakes we quickly loaded up his ATV's trailer with water, melons, firearms and ammo.

Now, I had never been to the "auxiliary" range before (my name for it, not his) and to get there he told me I would ride my own ATV!

    4718260675_478d12aa92_b.jpg

Now, I have never driven an ATV before and knew how hilly LMV's land is, so I figured after his quick instructions that I was a master and needed to drive the thing one handed while filming an action shot:

Um... Yeah... LMW's suggested that I not do that again.

    Testing Method

First a welcome from LMW himself:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-EPFHS9gC8]YouTube - INgunowners.com: Indiana Box of Truth (Introduction)[/ame]

The calibers we planned to test were:

    Pistol: .38, 9mm, .45
    Rifle: .22lr, .223, 7.62x39, 7.62x51
    Shotgun: 12 Gauge

The testing was going to be done in two parts: Drywall & Water. First to go were the handguns.

    Handguns vs. Drywall

    .38 Special

The .38 test was done in five parts (later videos were done with less cuts for timing reasons). We will let the videos do the talking:

[Note: It was a very hot day and the heat was beginning to take it's toll around this time, you can hear it in our voices. Additionally, we were having some camera issues and lost a tad bit of data and had to reshoot.]

And this was the end of the testing and with it the raw data.

    Nice work!

I'm sorry if this is a nitpick but have you thought about trying to space the drywall out 3.5" and perhaps add insulation/siding to the last wall when talking about "Neighboring" shots? I only ask because I heard that on rounds with a muzzle velocity of under 1k fps the roll out insulation+insulationboard+vinyl siding will stop or slow a round to almost nothing.

Rep incoming for all the hard work though!!

Insulation was considered, but created some practical concerns that were beyond what we needed to do in one day. Also note that the 7.62x39 did tumble and still blasted through just about everything.

I also agree that you've done some amazing things and I very much appriciate all of the time / expense / oh and fun that you had doing this.

Like SafeShootingDad's comment, I would be interested in having the box-o-truth built with a width of 16" on center (if it's not already) as this span would technically be the largest span between the studs in a home and if hit on center between the studs would be the weakest section of the drywall, etc.

But again that's just nitpicking, you've both done more than I will probably ever do in testing this stuff out.

Well Done! and +1 for both of you :rockwoot::rockwoot:

I have a bunch of pictures to load next. However, I think I will have to hold off until the thread hits Page 2 so people can actually load the page.

    Cool! Thanks for the info.

If there is a future test, I would be interested in finding out how the light weight .223s perform, such as the 45 gr and 50 gr hollowpoints do.

    1. We were 20-25 feet away (across a large room distance).

    2. [Warning: For Geeks Only! If you read this paragraph, you're a geek!] The upside down jug was an attempt to save the water in that jug. In the test just prior, the jug was 'kissed' by the round and had a small leak. By turning it over, we reduced the hydrostatic head pressure at the leak site thus reducing the rate of water loss. We also knew the water wouldn't leak any lower than the hole so we could use it in the next test!
