Big deal though, so what, I exchanged a few harsh words, but no children were around, nor were mine. I didn't even go Drill Instructor mode on them, just highly pissed off mode. I didn't scream or yell, I just told them if you touch me, then you'll have to worry about more than just my gun.

If you saw a father strolling around with his kids and significant other, with a cart full of toys, and he happened to have a gun, I highly doubt he was trying to stir the pot and create a malicious environment and intimidate people. How and why if I am a caring father, why would I try to start shi* with someone especially with my kids being there, but unless they start with me? I would not want my kids there if shi* did go down, I'd rather it be them and me, but life doesn't work that way. If SHTF, I will be ready, and I will defend my family as I defended the USMC and the US.

Cool, something else to do on a boring day when I get my LTCH.

Yeah. That's what everyone should do, get another OCing rally at the WoodField mall... That'd be a sight to see, and you are damn right I would be there... Lemme know, I'll go with you too...

And I know quite a bit of Merrillville cops, at my job, we do all the maintenance on their cars, so they talk to us quite a bit on first name basis. And I don't abuse that either.

I'm with you on this one, Dragon. And to be honest, I'm pissed off right there with you, and it didn't even happen to me.

I'd have been vocally upset as well, and to be frank, I'm certain a couple choice words would have come out. But unlike you, I'd have done it in front of my own kids. IMO, it's okay for the kids to see you stand up for your rights.

Ignorance on behalf of the unarmed sheep must stop.

And too much is made of the "make all LTCH holders look good/bad". It's an individual's right to carry, and in this state, HOW they carry. If what I do makes YOU look bad, then it's up to you to make yourself look better. It's not my job to concern myself with anyone's perception of you. What IS my job is to stand up for my rights, and in this case, you did that. Maybe you did it in a manner that some here might not agree with, but then again, they weren't there nor were they embarrassed or humiilated.

This will be an unpopular sentiment, but for those here who think he should have quietly conformed to Paul Blart's request, I wonder - how WOULD you have responded?

A letter to the Simon's? That doesn't work. It's been done many, many times. Boycott the mall? They don't give a **** if you shop there or not. Not to mention you go there for a reason. You'll probably end up costing yourself more money buying things from somewhere else, just to "prove a point" that they'll never even notice anyway. How will they truly know if you boycott them?

Besides, if they're gonna make you leave anyway, get your parting shots. You're not going back anyway, right?

I'd have asked that someone of proper authority ask me to leave. Paul Blart doesn't count. A piece of paper they brought me would not have sufficed. Better show me on the entrance door I walked in. If not, LMTFA.

I couldn't agree more. You guys know me better now, I am not going to take shi* from anyone. I didn't do it in the Marine Corps, and I am sure as hell not going to take it in the civilian world. I know my rights, and they were violated by far.

No, I don't want my kids to see me like that yet (they are only 3), but when they understand what's right and wrong, that's when I want them to see how to stand up and be a man.

Either way, Hobart Police wasn't there when I needed them, but they saw me with my firearm in the first place. So, if they are okay with it, the rent a cop should've been okay with it.

And it's not that the paper didn't suffic, its the fact I knew they were going to try and push my buttons, to get me to do something that they would have grounds to throw me out... I didn't want to give them that reason.

I don't even think I have been to a Simon mall. Not in Cali nor in NC... Either way, how can they be so anti gun when they operate and station in IN, one of the biggest gun carrying states? Like I said before, don't they have to abide by state law to operate and tax in IN?

The Simon's own and operate a huge chunk of the malls in the midwest, and possibly over half of the malls in Indiana.

They're notorious for not being "gun friendly" - many a people have been asked to leave Simon Malls, though I have never had even the slightest issue.

Well, if I ever see the name, I won't go in. Cause chances are I'll be carrying.

No, they don't have to. They can make any rule they please on their property, however, you'll notice that almost ALL malls who don't allow guns don't post it properly.

And I did just look - they own 337 malls in the U.S.

Malls are private property, the can ask you to leave for carrying.

So is my house, so is my car, so is everything that is now owned by you, but by another person. I understand the aspect of private property, but its open to the public, you don't need a membership to go into the mall. They don't screen or have metal detectors in the mall. If that were the case, the Sears entrance would be loaded, cause of the tools/appliance depts.

I don't care what you think, wait til it happens to you. You are on the opposite side of Indiana from me. 2 different ball games there. And OMG, don't give me that youre a OCer 24/7 and you represent us all crap. You are responsible for your own actions. I can't be held responsible for what other gun owners do, that's why they have individual licenses, not blanketing the gun owner community as a whole. And I know my rights, and I didn't not abuse them. I only used my freedom of speech to tell them how I felt. At least I didn't shoot, that would've been "not" cool.

I am entilted to OCing or CCing in the state, except where prohibited in gov buildings and schools, and I have fought and damn near died to uphold and defend those rights, no one knows that better than combat veterans. We survived the unsurvivable, we looked death in the face and laughed, and we are still here.

I was pissed the accused me of "malicious" intent, when I had my kids and my girl with a cart full of toys and what not.
Man, a whole lot of assumptions in there about me. You didn't understand what I was saying.

And you are writing to a disabled veteran from the first Gulf War who OCs on a regular basis. I do understand, but I don't brag about it.

I doubt that you "looked death in the face and laughed".

The pilots and intel friends that I was stationed with that died there, since they weren't as lucky as I was to live, certainly didn't laugh.

Please tell me again that I don't understand.

I definitely think a deep breath is needed here. I am with Spook on this though for some parts.

Yeah, it sucks that we don't have the "right" to carry where ever we have the "right" to but there are limitations on everything, That's life.

Personally, from the sounds of it you over reacted a bit. Them saying they would would lock you up is them pushing there authority I agree.

But when you comment back saying things that you did or said like "Go ahead and try" and "I cussed them out and left. Then people were staring" and "I just told them if you touch me, then you'll have to worry about more than just my gun.". I personally would have said alright, called LE and asked you be removed for disturbing the peace.

And YES you are responsible for the rest of us. Gun haters are started because of one idiot going out and being a moron (not saying this is you) or reckless, not every gun owner going out at once and committing a crime.

Basically, two wrongs don't make a right. Notify the owners or operators of the mall of the actions the security took and let it be known you were with your family , include the stores you went into and let them know that it's not appreciated. If that fails, boycott them. Actions speak louder than words.

BTW, let's not make this personal and act like it's a e-penis thing and start a :ar15: war, you started the thread with expectations of comments and thats all I'm giving.

    Thanks Rich
