    Just around the corner.
Went to Gander Mountain this morning around 0930. Checking out the ammo isle when an employee came over and asked if he could help me. I answered, do you have any .22LR? He answers "nope", and walks away. Me and the person with me thought he acted pretty rude, especially after he asked if he could help.

When do they get their help from? The girls working up front are nice, :), why is working in the back so differant? If they dont like their jobs, they should find another.

Gander is like most big-box stores. The most important qualities for a potential employee are:

    1) Willingness to work for minimum wage.
    2) Has a pulse.
    3) Can get to work somehow.

Nothing else seems to matter. I was at the one in Castleton this morning and it was about the same. Nobody knows nothing.

I did find a couple of boxes of Speer 147gr JHP 9mm and a box of Federal Hyrda-Shok .40 S&W though. They had a 3-4 9mm choices, all were JHP though. No FMJ.

They were remodeling the store and had expanded the gun section all the way across the back. It's HUGE. Unfortunately it's also mostly empty. But at least they are planning on having room for stock once they can get it.

So you mean the person is human? Even the most polite among us will get agitated by having to answer the same question over and over and over again.

He probably got the hell outta there before "could you check in the back" came out of jays lips.

I was in there today and was looking at a tactical 887 didn't have the breach choke installed I asked where the choke was and the girl said that it didn't come with one. I told her I was pretty sure it did and she just stood there. So I walked away. I waited a bit and asked another guy and he went and found the choke.

I was in Dick's sporting goods today and was pleasantly surprised with a young guy working the counter. He was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to about a wide range of gun issues. We started talking politics and had to stop as we were both preaching to the choir. I think they do need this at Gander MT. On the other hand, they did have a cute young girl who helped. Easy on the eyes!!!

Sounds like they are improving. I can usually stand at the gun counter for an hour without anyone saying a word to me. It's actually impressive to watch.

No REAL excuse but still the fact of the matter. Figuratively put yourself in this clerks shoes, ya he's probably at min. or just barely over wage, Now consider the way supplies are at present how many times he gets asked the same question over and over in his 8 hour shift. After so long it really does get more than a little ridiculous from his point of view.

I worked that side of the counter most of my life, and owned my own business for a number of years till I retired. I even got to the point of ordering a customer out when it got way over the top. Did it hurt business? Maybe, but I sure felt better and it made not one iota how I ate that evening or for the rest of the week for that matter. Neither did it make any difference how I paid my bills business or personnel, and I still retired very comfortably.

Like I said it doesn't excuse it, but I completely understand how he may feel.

Lol. I would not have asked that. I never ask that question. Even if he heard it a thousand times that morning, he didnt hear it from us. Why take it out on us? People have forgoten some of the basic rules of business. Never shout at the customer, never show you are in a bad mood, always smile. Your customers are keeping you in a job. Without customers, you have no job.

Went to Gander Mtn Castleton Fri afternoon March 1st. Had just picked up my new Taurus 992 at Wanamaker's that morning. Bought 300rds. CCI .22 LR mini mags along with the revolver, but no .22 WMR's. I knew G Mtn got their shipment in on Fri morning, so I took a chance that they might still have some .22 Mags. Nice young man in a wheelchair asked if he could help me, I told him what I was looking for. He said "follow me". Took me to a pallet of ammunition setting aside, picked up one box 250 bulk pack CCI .22 WMR Maxi Mag and handed it to me. He told me that someone had picked them up and then set them down in an odd place, so he (the employee) had got them to the pallet, but not yet back onto the shelf.

They were not cheap, but supply and demand dictates the market. The young man that helped me could not have been more pleasant or helpful.

All this to say that I had a pleasant experience at Gander Mtn. and I will (have) go back to that store.

I was going to buy a sling at 39. At register they said it was 59. The guy who did the price check said it was 69. No compromise even though it said 39 right underneath it. They've remodeled the one on 65 at least 2 times and maybe replaced the entire staff 3 times.

I've heard far too much bad advice given out to potential firearms purchasers at Gander Mountain in Greenwood that I tend to stay away from the counter.

I don't like to interject myself into somebody else's conversation but when they are being given flat-out bad advice that is contrary to the law, I feel obligated to make sure that individual knows what the law actually is. If they don't want to hear it, that's fine, I tried.

More often than not I load up the law and let them read it themselves so they can have their own take and don't have to take my word for it.

Its clearly obvious you have never worked retail or if you have not for any length of time.

You have NEVER had a bad day at work and are always super pleasant to your co-workers? Never ever get upset in traffic? Careful how you answer that.:dunno:

I know we are emotional creatures by nature, but we should leave our personal problems at the door.

I don't go to Gander [or any other retail store] to have a bad experience because your girlfriend broke up with you, your car had a flat on the way to work, or you didn't get that raise you were after.
