I really wanna feel for gun owners in Connecticut, but I wonder how many off them got off their fat asses and called their legislators when the bill was being debated. If they had been involved when the time was appropriate, they wouldn't be felons now (and unjustly or not, they ARE felons). We keep saying that "this is a wake up call for the politicians", but somehow it's not a wake up call for the voters.

This is an *excellent* point, sir. We all too often blame the politicians (I'm guilty of this as well), but don't back up a step to realize it's up to us to demand better.

I think this is only the Start of bigger country wide efforts :(
All I have to say is good luck

Did you read what I just posted? You can do more than just say "good luck". Pick up the phone RIGHT NOW. Call your legislator RIGHT NOW and tell them you don't want a repeat of Connecticut's gun law here. If all you are doing is saying "good luck", then YOU are the problem, not your elected official.

I wouldn't be too quick to pass judgement on citizens because we have seen too many instances where elected officials have helped pass anti-gun laws and have ignored the will of their constituents. I'm not saying we shouldn't keep the pressure on our representatives, I'm just pointing out that there are some that are serving an agenda and not the interests of their constituents. Those representatives need to be removed from their office.

How do you know they're "ignoring the will of their constituents"? If anti-gunners are louder than pro-gunners, then they haven't ignored them. They sided with the perceived majority. If you want your voice to be heard, you have to make it heard. And believe me, complaining to each other on a gun board is not how you do it. The other side is trying really REALLY hard to ban guns wherever possible. Our side is saying "good luck!" and then turning on Honey Boo Boo and cracking another beer. You say "those representatives need to be removed from their office". Guess who's responsible for voting them out. Go on. I'll give you three tries.

i hope the gun owning citizens of Connecticut keep fighting and are willing to fight to the end when hopefully their rights are restored. I agree with scutter though that they ALL sHare the blame of the new laws. They should have fought harder to keep it from becoming law. I hope Indianas politicians aren't stupid enough to even try it. I constantly contact them to keep them smart on issues :):

We will keep fighting. I believe that there were many gun owners that made calls like I did. I think that the politicians were horrified by the actions of an ill person so they voted as their party suggested. It is easier to blame a tool than the idea that we as a nation do very little to care for those persons with mental illness. Since that day other mentally ill persons have committed murder, and their weapon of choice in many of those cases were not guns. There were other suggestions that could have become laws like armed guards in the schools. I haven't heard anything about that proposal in a long time, especially since the state suggested that the towns pay for the guards. Gun owners have court cases pending but I don't know how well those will turn out because judges as you know are political appointees. Does anyone know how many of the tragedies like newton were committed by mentally disturbed individuals? I know everyone on this site would agree that persons using a gun to do what this person did have to be ill. We all see life as important. For a politician it is easier to say look at us we did something making you safer by legislating a tool rather than to lay the blame where it belongs and then have to deal with it. November is coming maybe they will listen to us after we vote.

You know what, you can call them sheeple, but do you have an LTCH? Personally I think those are unconstitutional but I like avoiding prison so I went ahead and got mine, but take steps to help eliminate it as a requirement for others in the future. If that makes me a sheeple so be it.

Are you asking me? Yes, for similar reasons to you doing so. I think it will be intering to see what happens in CT in Novemeber. Maybe Ungie and crew can do what was done in CO.

It is very disturbing to know that our government and some very ignorant people are trying to take away our availability to protect ourselves, it has been in my mind what would I do if the same situation would happen here and just to think about it is not a good feeling. It's good to see that the Connecticut responsible gun owners are standing up for themselves and I will support them any way I can.
