Yea I have met him in person and is a lot easier to understand than his writings! LOL And on the TM was torn between it and the TRP so I think I might try to trade my Kimber Elite Custom II if I can find someone interested.

I would love to meet that guy.....:)

I know I will catch some heat for this but my trophy ran as well as my buddy's Baers. Not as pretty in fit/finish but groups and straight up shooting it ran as well.
Like I said, If I were flush with cash there would be a Baer in my safe.

After shooting the TRP I have learned that I really need to work more on trigger control than buying more expensive guns! Like Harley said its a lot more accurate than I am!

I have changed up my grip 2 times in as many years.I am now comfortable with what I am doing. Trigger discipline is all important especially with the 1911. Grips vary with hand size and stance. Recoil plays into this as well.
Rounds down range. Lots of them.

The properly tuned 1911 is the most forgiving platform in the world of less than perfect trigger control. The straight back non-hinged trigger and SA pull let you get away with slapping it like your name was Ray Rice.

Exactly why I have taken to them lately. Between my carpal tunnel and girly grip a fine 1911 is sort of a crutch. Don't know anything about slapping the Ol Lady. Mrs. VERT is mean and has a 1911 of her own. :):

Have you considered having one built ? I had my springer 1911-a1 gi turned into a sweet shooter...all wilson combat internals and externals, match grade barrel, etc. It didnt cost the price of wilson combat or les baer, but I would not hesitate to run it against one ever.

I have 2 SA GI's that I did exactly this to. They are both a joy to run. Gun/parts for about the cost of a TRP.

My Springfield Trophy Match is the only other 1911 in that price range that ran as good/better than my TRP's.
It is a dedicated target shooter and with the proper skill sets behind the trigger they are deadly accurate.
If you can understand him Harley 50 is right.
My Springfield Trophy Match (I bought it used) was not that impressive. The hammer and sear are not made from hardened tool steel, but MIM. I replaced these parts with Cylinder and Slide parts (fitting required). The adjustment screws on the rear sight are extremely stiff. The accuracy at 50 yards from a rest was not that great. I got a 4.73" ten shot group with my match reloads, using Nosler bullets. On the upside, the slide to frame fit is good and the barrel is fitted well at the rear. The gun might benefit from a fitted match bushing (I may try that next).

A bushing that is fit well will help.

My TRP had .004-.005 of play in barrel to bushing fit, and another .004 -.005 in bushing to slide fit slop. Not terrible for a production line gun, but not anywhere near semi-custom level. Or even as good as the STI sentry production line 1911 I had.

Fitting an EGW bushing cut groups sizes in half.

Rob377 nailed it. Production guns will vary. My trophy was sweet out of the box. I did love on the trigger and yes, they are MIM pieces. I do all of my own fit up work. Ignition kits from Cylinder & slide are one of my favorites above the standard Wilson kits. Nowlin/EGW and others make slightly over sized barrel bushings that when properly fit up bring the groups into "Smile" range.

Buying one used you often do not know what it has been through as to round count and tinkering. The bushing could be in another gun. I have seen that from people. Fella brought me a 1911 to fit up all the internals and said it came from his Trophy Match. I asked where the match was. His answer, I put all the parts from this gun in it and sold the trophy. My reply, did you state that fact to the new buyer. His remark...."No".
I handed him his stuff back and refused to do the work. He is no longer a friend if he ever really was one. People do some deviate :poop: to make a buck.

My barrel to bushing fit is pretty good, but the bushing to slide fit is sloppy. I'm sure that a new bushing would help. Thanks for the tip on the EGW.

Measure it all up and look at Nowling. They offer a good slightly over sized bushing for decent money. I have used several with very good results. No knock on EGW as they have very nice pieces as well.

The SA Trophy Match I purchased had been monkeyed with. Someone tried to adjust the trigger and screwed it up. They also cut the recoil spring. The store that sold me the pistol reimbursed me the cost of the Cylinder & Slide sear, hammer, disconnector and springs, which I thought was very fair. After fitting and installing the new internal parts, filing off the bump on the magazines and replacing the recoil spring with a 17# one, the gun functions perfectly and the trigger is sweet, compared to the trigger job I had done on a SA Loaded with MIM parts. Another plus is that the pistol appeared to have been fired very little prior to my purchasing it. The accuracy needs some improvement and I think that a new oversized bushing, properly fitted, will probably tighten up the 50 yd. groups. For most folks 25 yard accuracy or less is all they care about. I'd just like to have that nice 3" group at 50 yards, if I can get that by adding a bushing for twenty bucks. After all is said and done, I won't have had a bundle of my money in the project (around $27.00, not counting my time).

You should be able to pop clay's at 25 yds off hand with a decent 1911. Steadily ring an 18" steel at 50 off hand. That is our measuring stick anyway.
