I cant imagine this even lawful at all. Obama flat out denies laws that are already on the books. How is this man able to stay in the white house by ignoring laws? The republicans have one play, ONLY ONE, and that is to shut it down. Obama wont sign anything. if the republicans cave they know they will lose in 2016. So neither obama or the republicans will get anything done(which is so genius on part of how this country was set up), BUT obama will do it through executive orders and no one will stop him. They can try to impeach him, but they've already taken that off the table since they are weak. Republicans should defund everything, make sure ss checks goes out and the military is paid and shut the rest down for as long as it takes. It wont happen of course, and the gains made a few days ago wont matter. What a world.

Couple things.

Amnesty/pardon is a purely executive action. Almost nothing the legislative branch can do about it. Ford awarded Vietnam draft dodgers "conditional' amnesty, and Carter furthered it with unconditional amnesty. JFK pardoned first-time offenders under the 1956 Narcotics Control Act. (Rather ironic in today's political climate.) Andrew Johnson awarded unconditional amnesty to Confederate soldiers. (There were previous and subsequent similar actions, I just use that for an example.)

There are areas Congress could probably find bi-partisan agreement. Reagan signed into law legislation that had a "path to citizenship" that required undocumented aliens to pay a fine, but they could stay in the country. I believe that program continued until the late 90s.

Immigration doesn't need reformed. There is already a process to immigrate legally into the United States. Come in the front door. Welcome to America.

What you are referring to is legalizing ILLEGAL entry. Just call it what it is.
Beyond that, what would be the purpose of the Republicans intentionally adding to the Democrat voter base?
That would be an epically stupid move.

Meh...just another example of how little most know of a bull**** proclamation that freed not a single slave.

There is a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. It's called "leave the country and apply like everyone else". If you broke the law to get in and have to serve a ban from entering the country then serve it and be granted admission after.

The POTUS and his party have made it clear what they see as immigration reform. And it essentially is a poison pill for the GOP by fundamentally shifting the demographics towards the Democrats. They want to import an entire voting bloc.

Immigration law needs enforced. If it should be reformed then those who knowingly hire illegal immigrants should be fined heavily, and face jail time. If there really is a shortage of labor then issue more work visas. There should be additional funding allocated for the protection of the border, and increased funding for deportation.

Illegal entry should be a felony. All suspected should be checked and verified, those caught to be held in jail until deportation.
