    it would allow folks to have their gun privilages placed on their license(hard plastic) if they wish

    Synopsis of HB1029:

    Provides
    that an individual must indicate on an application for or a renewal of
    a driver's license, permit, or identification card whether the individual
    possesses a handgun license (license). Requires the bureau of motor
    vehicles (bureau) to verify whether the individual has a license by
    contacting the superintendent of the state police department. Requires
    the bureau to place a notation on the individual's driver's license,
    permit, or identification card that indicates that the individual
    possesses a license

    The synopsis doesn't mention the part about the police being obliged to inform the BMV about the applicant having a license, but it's in the bill sure enough:

    Sec. 34. If the superintendent receives a request from the bureau of motor vehicles under:

    (1) rules adopted as required under IC 9-24-6-2(c)(5);

    (2) IC 9-24-11-5(k); or

    (3) IC 9-24-16-3(i);

    to verify that an individual has a handgun license, the superintendent shall promptly inform the bureau of motor vehicles as to whether the individual possesses a handgun license.

    Yes. He seems well-intentioned, but on a mistaken path.

    There's nothing well intentioned about this bill. Anyone who is concerned about privacy when their LCTH info is checked by radio could achieve everything that this bill achieves by simply informing the officer that they have one.

    Reference HB1029. We had a lot of folks contact Rep Gutwein about his bill.

    His response: "My goal for this bill was to protect personal freedoms. When pulled over for a traffic violation, your drivers license is scanned and anyone listening to the police scanner will hear that you hold a handgun license. Although this legislation would protect gun owners from this kind of exposure, I realize that some believe it would compromise personal freedoms in other situations, such as showing your driver's license to buy alcohol."
    "Although I view this bill as a protection of personal freedoms. I believe I need to address the concerns that some people have in regards to this bill - therefore I will no longer be pursuing this bill. Instead, I have decided to focus my attention on public safety."

    He went on to state that he is authoring HB 1060 in an effort to crack down on scrap metal theft.

    I applaud Rep. Gutwein for listening! While his intentions might have been honorable, I agree that he didn't fully think through the ramifications of this. That, however, is the reason for the publishing of proposed legislation and the committee process. People get to see, hear, comment, etc. before it's voted on. That's also, of course, why things like the NY SAFE Act, and Obama Care were rammed through like they were. Had people been allowed to read and understand what was in these bills they would have voted no.

    We understand that, but didn't the uninformed Rep believe he was doing a good thing for LTCH holders?

    Got this from Terry Goodin this a.m. in reference to my email asking him "Exactly WHAT mis-nomers"?

    "Some folks are saying the state is trying to create a list of gun owners by putting the permit on the driver's license...the state already has the information that would be on the license...TG"

    This Guy is a joke, saying anyone with a police scanner will hear about having a PPP, it's all electronic these days, computers say it all, they don't broadcast it over the airwaves like in the past, what a bunch of bullsiski!

    Nowhere in the constitution is training required to carry a handgun. Also putting it on a license is a bad idea since it just screams that I'm armed when I have to show it.

    You don't have to be smart to get elected.

    Around here(my local area), I've heard it mentioned on the radio I have setting two feet away from me. I have heard more than one agency broadcast this information over the air.

    i haven't read the whole thread so if this has been addressed i apologize. What happens when I'm in a state that doesn't honor my LTCH and get pulled over for speeding? Does my drivers license that says I might be carrying give them probable cause to search me or my vehicle?
