No, unless you're a law enforcement officer of some flavor, you cannot lawfully carry your handgun (or weapons) at the State Fair.

Here is the IAC (Indiana Administrative Code) for the annual Indiana State Fair (note that it is applies to all "deadly weapons," not just firearms):

    “Deadly weapons prohibited

    (a) This rule does not apply to a federal, state, or local law enforcement officer or to a person who has been employed or authorized by the state fair commission to provide security protection and services during the annual state fair.

    (b) No person in possession of a deadly weapon shall be permitted onto or be permitted to remain on the fairgrounds during the annual state fair.

    (c) Any deadly weapon found in the possession of a person while on the fairgrounds during the annual state fair is subject to immediate confiscation by law enforcement officers or other persons authorized by the executive director of the state fair commission.

    (d) Any person properly licensed to carry a firearm must secure the firearm in a locked compartment of his or her vehicle, and it shall not be visible to passersby.”

Was there today and they were holding up the incoming lines by checking bags, having people empty pockets and giving cursory pat downs to people. One person even had a wand. Apparently they've been reading about INGO people trying to get around the regulations.

I don't advertise that I'm carrying and have never had a problem at the State Fair. If you are smart about it no one will ever know.

Entered from 38th Street at 10:30 this morning and walked right in as did everyone around me. Exited the same gate at 11:45 and there were 5 workers wanding everybody coming in.

Well if they do as good a job as they do at Lucas oil for colts home games then there is no need to worry. I always carry at colts home games and never have a problem. head for the gate 10 mins before kick off and they don't even scan your ticket half the time. I'll be at the fair tomorrow at 3pm. I'll report back on how it went.

At a previous job i had to get go through a metal detector daily. Wear a decent sized belt buckle, i just moved my iwb holster behind my four leaf clover belt buckle. When it beeped they would wand me and think it was my belt. First stop was the bathroom to move my holster back to the 4 o'clock position. I also wear boots and my pants fit me. So a large buckle didn't look out of place.

But back to the OP and the state fair.

Its against the law. In one of the most open minded states in the union, we enjoy freedoms few can hope for.

If you asked me not to carry while visiting your house, I wouldn't carry at your house.
I might not go to your house. But I'd respect you.

This prohibition has the force of law. Go, and obey the law. Or stay at home.

All this "I'm going to sneak in my handgun" nonsense takes the "criminals don't follow the laws" argument to a new and unattractive level.

    My 2cents.

They used a wand on me but when it went off they didn't ask any questions and let me right in.

It saddens me that we continue to act out this security theater. So, so many sheeple are calmed by measures that do absolutely nothing, yet cost us all money and shrink our collective civil liberties.

I was asked for a pocketknife today that I didn't even have on me today and I told the lady that and she said oh and that was that. I seems like they want to enforce rules but then they decide that it is too much of a hassle and just don't care about it.

Yeah well don't carry yours then. Your line of thinking is why so many of our 2nd amendment rights have been INFRINGED! If the govt would stop violating the constitution by creating unjust laws against guns then we wouldn't have to oppose them and be creative. They can't arrest or remove everyone. The state fair like many things is motivated by money. If it didn't make money then it wouldn't exist. Start writing your representatives and get this unjust "rule" changed. In the meantime resistance is patriotic!
