So I recently bought a home built ar15 and took it to the range today. Started out ok but the more rounds I shot it started having failure to eject issues. It eventually got to were the bolt won't move at all. I can manually cycle it no problem. I switched lowers and it did the same thing. So I'm guessing it's gas key or gas block. I shot maybe 100rds but the gas block was blazing hot!!! It's a railed gas block. Can someone help me out here? Thanks

fouling and/or blockage somewhere between the gas block and end of gas tube in the upper. that or misaligned gas block, but if it worked and then gradually worked less until failure, probably a blockage.

If you can knock the pin out and remove the tube block like he's talking and clean it out I would do that. Also, while it's out I'd even spray through the gas block with some cleaner, get everything cleaned up and see how it runs.

Another thing you could try especially if that doesn't work is swapping the BCG. Also, while not trying to insult you, you did make sure everything was lubed right?

Another thing... Is the gas block solid? With a home build, the guy may not have had that block on well if it's held my a couple set screws. Just a thought when I read your post again.

a can of no residue brake cleaner sprayed down the gas tube will work wonders in cleaning out excess carbon

Everything was lubed with clp. Just ok the gas block off and 1 of the 2 screws was loose. Looks like the gas block walked forward from the powder marks on the barrel. I don't have anything to get the pin outta the gas tube to clean it. Wish I did

Make sure both screws are removed, knock the gas block back into place and apply blue loctite to the screws and reinsert making sure the block is straight. Probably no blockage.
also clp burns off quick. I'd use a heavier lube

:+1: To this... Some guys will even dimple their barrel. I would most certainly "condition the threads" tighten, loosen, tighten, loosen, be sure they have loctite if you so wish, and tighten down...

I don't use it but I've seen top name manufacturers use red even on their barrel nuts. I don't myself. If you ever want to take those out you will have to use a torch on them till they start smoking then remove

Well i don't wanna risk having to remove it agian if it's not slighted. Guess I'll go get blue lol

I meant the red you will have to use a torch. The blue will "break" free with torq. I'd use blue but it's up to you. I use blue and have worked on many AR's and have never had one come loose unintentionally due to the blue being insufficient. Like mentioned above yes you can dimple your barrel. I'd recommend having this done by a professional if you choose that path.

Well the gas block was loose and I just got the flash hider off with barely any effort. I'm gonna lock tight everything and cross my fingers. If it doesn't work then I'm gonna have someone who's a professional look at it

Oh and I had a issue with the trigger pin wanting to walk out of the lower. Figured out the trigger spring was upside down? So it wouldn't sit in the pin groves. I flipped it over and it works great!! These things are easy to work on with a little YouTube help haha

By the way the firing pin works as a great punch guide haha

Sounds like someone put that together pretty sloppy if the springs were messed up even. Glad you've got it worked out. Let us know if it shoots ok now that things are fixed.
