Little Bastards will probably make off with my guns too. When I picked up that 9mm nighthawk Mrs.VERT said "VERT Jr. Will probably like shooting that....". Yeah right! I ain't starting a 12 year off with a semi custom 1911! He can learn to shoot a plastic, striker fired gun like everyone else. I had to choke down Old Milwaukees Best before I could appreciate the micro brews.
When I was 12, I got to shoot the 03 Springfield, Remington shotguns and the Winny .22.

All mags aren't made identical. I can feel a difference when the round chambers with different mags. I gots to go with the Mouse Mod on the Wilson and CM mags.
That being said, I don't have any of the newer CM mags. I haven't bought one in about 5 years maybe?
Years ago I would run CM mags only. No trouble out of them BUT loading the Wilsons always seems less of a chore.

The Wilsons sure are smooth. Loading a Wilson magazine is like a precision operation. It just feels right. My 1911s run the CM mags just fine, but they feel scratchy when loading them. Kind of like loading a Glock mag. Nothing smooth about it regardless of how well it works when loaded. I did revive my useless Kimber mags by putting a Wilson combat upgrade kit in them. They feel great now too and actually feel the gun well.

Im sure you have already found a 1911 to suit you, but by far the best bang for the buck is a Rock Island Armory 1911. I know sheriffs who carry them because they like them as much as their kimbers (and they don't want to scratch or damage the kimbers)

man if that's your price range, you GOTTA go with Kimber. hands down. don't go colt, that's what all of the old timers will tell you. and in your price range you can probably get one from there custom shop if you can find one. I have owned every manufacturer of 1911 and Kimber is the way to go. I was highly disappointed by sig's take on a 1911. colts aren't bad but wouldn't be my first choice. springfields are also pretty nice, especially emp's or trp's

I used to be a Kimber fan. I have a couple of the older and well made Kimbers. The newer Kimbers are stamped out and pretty pretenders. Their quality control is dependent on the quality of their MIM crap.

I have owned several Kimbers over the years.
The older ones as Harry mentions are well made guns.
The new ones are at best pretty girls with no souls.
Not raining on your choice of firearms but the last 2 I had were Custom shop pieces and they made 1 range trip and found new homes. By comparison for the price point very disappointing.

    Mrkanner88,
Sir, you stated "don't buy a COLT".
    Why would you say that?
I have been shooting Colt 1911's for the past 60yrs, never had a problem with any of them.
First one was mfg in 1912, newest Colt 1911 in 9mm was made in 2015. NEVER had one problem!

OK, OK. Let's not create a dogpile here. Kimber has certainly earned their reputation and recognized as one of the go to brands among production 1911s. I personally think they are a bit overpriced so far as performance but very pretty in finish. Even with the frustration I had with my wife's Kimber she still really loves the gun and wants to shoot it. If a pretty gun is what it takes then so be it. It took quite a bit of tinkering but I did finally get the gun running and it is now sitting in her nightstand safe.

Kimber can produce a decent 1911, but when you compare features, they tend to come up short in value when compared to others. Both of my Kimbers have functioned well, but I've never pushed them hard. The one I still have needed a bunch of parts to bring it up to spec such as the plastic MSH needed swapped out for a real one. Sights needed replaced and the recoil spring assy got swapped out too. To be honest though, my Colt needed pretty much the same things done and cost even more than the Kimber when new. My Sig 1911s (I know, CM, that's an oxymoron) came with front and MSH checkering, night sights and extended controls. I've run them stock with no issues, but again, have not pushed either of them hard (not more than 100 rounds at a time). I still have one of them and can't imagine letting it go anytime soon.

With both Kimber and Colt, you pay extra for the roll mark, but with the Colt, you get a forged frame and slide in return. I do like both brands, but am realistic about what they bring for the dollar. Now, if you want to talk about the CZ 1911, I'd be glad to bore you with how happy I've been with that puppy. It's the best choice out there if you like the GI style 1911.
