I think i would be ok for a while, not to worried about looters. The first 10 or 20 would be scewerd on sticks randomly about the yard. That might deter the next group of looters or thugs whatever. If i got too hungry i would just eat the looters or gangs, should be plenty meat on hand. And take no offence fellas, but as someone said earlier it would be every man for himself, if i got too hungry or needed supplys real bad, id just come take yours :draw:

So, basically, you'd one of the bad guys, one of the looters, one of the people responsible for turning a bad situation into a real SHTF.

After watching The History Channel tonight and the SHTF show, it raised a valid question...

Think about the conditions in that show...

How many of you think you would REALLY survive the first wave of a SHTF situation? Leave your pride and ego behind on this one and just think about it. Especially those married with children.

How could you survive with no food or water? How could you fend off the gangs? How could you survive without medicine? The chances are very slim you would make it past the first two weeks. Those of you who have survival stock in food, water, ammo, and anything else you think is necessary will be challenged day in and day out for your merchandise. To make things worse, you are responsible for 2-3 children, and a wife who couldn't fight her way out of a wet paper bag. Face it, most men don't have mountain women for wives.

While I cannot possibly list them all, there are FAR too many scenarios that can take place that greatly limits ones ability to survive for any length of time.

It would truly become an every man for himself event.

Granted there are folks who are super skilled and more apt to make it further along, but many people are out of shape, and could easily be overpowered.

I still don't think some of you get it.

seems pretty clear to me:dunno: you think there are too many variables to prepare for and we should at this point say your right and stop prepping and just get ready to die because thats all that will happen anyway, except for a small number of highly skilled mall ninjas who will just die later. is there some complete 180 story in between the lines I'm not reading?

Where does it say to stop doing anything? Where does it say anything about Mall Ninjas? It WAS an ambiguous post about an enigmatic situation.

rapist & murderers??????:noway: I said nothing to the nature. Thats a heck of alot different then going out & finding food...

But not so different from stealing food from others who are themselves trying to survive.

I'll just end on this note I guess, the overall feel from the thread title to the post was that we were going to bite it despite the level of preparation ones may or may not have, and despite what we think we are not gonna survive.

It does point out one glaring difference though. Those who live out in the "sticks" will have more warning that things have gotten bad and will have more time to take action. Also, I suspect that things won't get as bad out in the sticks.

Those of us who live in the cities, or in the suburbs will have very little time to put our plans into action. Things will get very bad very quickly in the cities.

This is more true than most people realize. Depending on the scenario, city folk may or may not have time to act. I'm not saying that living in the sticks is a free pass to survival, but I believe the lesser the population the greater chance for life as normal.

Does anyone remember seeing the pics of Katrina??? What did the traffic/roadways look like! It's possible that it could take hours to go blocks in some areas. If you are not one of the FIRST people on your way out, you may not go anywhere. If it takes you one second longer to prep than your neighbor, and he is one second behind the next, and so on...you may be well behind the first people to go! By the time you get out of your neighborhood, I'm loaded up, out the door, to my safe place, and probably eating dinner.

Good point phil. Also, someone mentioned kids slowing some of us down. I have an infant daughter and damily. This for me gives me the most reason to get ready and make a plan. The will to live. I have something to fight and prepare for no matter the situation.

After watching Armageddon the other night it looks to me that those who would survive are those that banded together in small communities to wach out for each other. I think those that are a part of a MSG would stand a far better chance than if you went off on your own with or without a family.

lol we are all under the impression that we are bad a**** and what not but in all reality with out a solid group of people around you it would be hard to survive for long periods of time. everybody has to sleep at some point and time and you need a trustworthy person to pull security (well really a couple but you get the point) i still am a firm believer in my family will motivate me to survive no matter what because i just couldn't stand failing and having my little one suffer. she is my heart and soul and to fail and means she fails and suffers and that is 1000% unacceptable to me.

There are two types of people on these forums: (a) the a-holes who say "all I need is mah guns and ammo" and (b) people who really want to be prepared, with plenty of food, and who now must prepare for the a-holes.

near Bedford on a whole lot of land.

2 variable matrices are always suspect.

There are predators. There are scavengers. There are sheep trying to learn. There are sheepdogs. There are predator hunters. There are lone wolves. In reality most folks have some percentage of more than one in them. While the predators like to talk big, there are also a number of predator hunters in addition to the sheepdogs. In any major social upheaval there is always a period of readjustment of the social order.

When the SHTF, there will be looting, gangs, all the crazy stuff we've seen in other events. Think about not even lone looters, but gangs. They're looking for an easy score. A well defended / stocked home would not be immune, but would deter most thugs. Defending the home would be much easier than defending one's self on the run.

I most people under estimate their ability to survive in a disaster, most people go into denial and thats what leads to their demise. If you keep your head and plan you'll have a good chance.

I for one can say I think Im pretty well set.... My whole house has thermopane windows with an exteror lexan cover, its a concrete block house with a brick and mortar front fascia, Entry doors are steel with steel core with a frame reinforced with rebar, I have a small above ground fuel tank for diesel, and a inground as well but its much larger, Ventilated basement with generator and back up generator, Im looking to install solar panels as well. I have my own mini farm as well. I grow fruits, vegetables, tobacco, herbs....

The only thing i am dependent on is water..... hmm

my house sounds more like a bunker than a house now that im looking at it from the outsde in.
