Except for digital clocks. Those are never right when broken. You might as well say that a digital clock went liberal if it breaksEven a clock that no longer works is right twice a day.
Looks like it was a great learning experience. When finishing up with a fine cut file, make sure you use a file card a lot to keep the file teeth clean.Morning
Finishing up my optics cut on the Witness today. Yesterday was full of mistakes, revelations and deep levels of frustration with myself. But I'm pushing forward and finishing this project.
Brief summary:
A rigged up drill press pseudo mill is not suitable for precision milling. Not if you value your time, patience and sanity. Buy a mill with a digital readout and ALL of the proper equipment needing for measuring AND squaring everything up. Also, get a proper education and actually take advice and absorb from those with actual experience who tried to tell you better.
*Broke my end mill at the very end due to user error. Talk about butt puckering. Thankfully I could finish and the damage to the slide was minimal and non critical.

I like the crayola sidewalk chalk. It makes pretty colors on the work bench. And file chalk prevents loading up and makes for smoother cuts.

And don’t use a cheap file.Looks like it was a great learning experience. When finishing up with a fine cut file, make sure you use a file card a lot to keep the file teeth clean.
Interesting, had never heard of this before. And file chalk prevents loading up and makes for smoother cuts.
Feel well soon!Howdy folks… checking in from the couch. I caught the plague from the kids… believe it’s probably norovirus. The first one sick is mostly over it, although she had a small fever last night one of the 6 times she woke up. The oldest has just emerged from her bedroom. I was finally able to make myself puke, worst I can ever recall… that act gets so painful the older I get…
Meanwhile my better half is fine for now. Holding us all together…

Yup, sat it on parallels. Didn't even think about checking top to rails for parallel. Got the optic mounted earlier today and couldn't get the dot low enough, maxed out elevation. Been filing an angle ever since then. Slow going and quite annoyed at myself. This was wayyyyy more difficult than I ever imagined.Hey T-Dogg -
Did you set your slide down on parallels and start milling?
Did you check to see if the slide rails and top are parallel?
I think this is why my two dots won’t sight in, or at least a contributing factor, and I wanted to make you aware before you got too far along.
It’s a CZ thing, so I assume it might be a witness thing too.
I believe the dot mount needs to be parallel to the rails, at least for a longer barreled gun.
My short Omega and a Rami that I saw today need a 1 degree sloped mount to work.
Allen very graciously spent some time with me today to explain this.
That was probably my Rami!Hey T-Dogg -

AllenM gave me a couple of options on my Rami but since 1 degree shims are available for my holosun he recommended using a shim and I went with it.Yup, sat it on parallels.
