Pre '64 Model 70 in 220 Swift. Topped with a "state of the art", for that time period Lyman 4x fine crosshair scope. Watched my first groundhog go poof thru it years ago and been hooked ever since.
I shoot a Bushmaster, DPMS (.308) and 2 Noveske rifles. Hands down the Noveske is the cream of those I own. Expensive but top notch. Most any of the big names today make a quality AR.
My vote is still Noveske if you wanna spend the money.

Thanks! I'm not sure why I never got 10X or the 180 Hornady bullets to perform like I "thought" they should. And I did give up pretty easy. Just looking to compare and see if there is something I need to try again. Thanks again.

Broom_jm - just curious as to the Reloader 10x load your friends rifle likes? I never could get it dialed in with the Barnes or Hornady bullets I first tried when I got my rifle. I tried everything from touching the lands to a fair amount of jump with a wide range of charges. Best I could do was...
Bullets and loads kinda go hand in hand. Each bullet design has its own merit. As I stated, the Barnes is a tough bullet. I wasn't seeing the expansion I thought I would have on the 2 deer I shot with it. That said you sure won't have to worry about it coming apart at close range if it hits...
You are probably gonna get a lot of different bulltes/loads from everyone so here's my .02 worth...lol
225gr Sierra GK over Ramshot X-terminator. Consistent and groups well in 2 different Encores. Previous load was a 200gr Barnes TSX over BL-C2. Shot very good as well just too tough of a...
Thanks fireball. Might look at it a little harder. I want to be able to set it up fairly quick and be able to run the brass thru reasonably fast.

Yep, have only heard good things about it. It is under consideration as well. Once set up how long does it take to run 100 pcs thru? I'm assuming you use it for all your cases not just your BFG rounds?
Who's using what and what are your thoughts? Have looked at several but leaning toward the Giraud. Most likely doing batches of 100 or so rounds at a time so an automated version would be preferred. Thanks for the input.

I too agree that the 1.8 rule was most likely adopted to include the .460S&W. Too much confusion from folks who didn't "know" why a 44mag and 500S&W were legal but the 460 wasn't just from looking at the numbers. I saw this first hand at our local gun shop.
When you look at a 150-200fps...
Have to agree the little extra may not make a huge difference but that really isn't the reason for building a new rifle. Here in the very southern part of the state there are still plenty of longer range opportunities. The 1.8 will be a bolt gun versus the Encore platform. I love working up...
Shot BL-C2 and Barnes 200gr TSX for the first couple years with great success. The Barnes is one tough bullet! Switched to Ramshot X-terminator and 225gr Sierra GK and very pleased with that load as well. Good velocity and shoots around 1/2 inch @ 100yds thru 2 Encores my buddy and I shoot...
Going along with the big and slow train of thought...I wish we had an even heavier bullet selection to play with. Say up to 300gr. As long as the Accubond is, I wouldn't think seating it would be an issue in the Encore platform providing there is enough throat. Bolt guns would be a different...
My thoughts exactly. I load for my 358BFG and a friend's. We use each one a little different. My shots are typically 150yds and less while his are out to 300. We also shoot a little different load than most who post. We shoot the Sierra 225gr GK over X-terminator powder. We've shot the...
I knew there are others out as well all based one way or another on the WSM vs. WSSM. I currently have the BFG 1.625" in the Encore. Looking to set up a bolt gun next on the 1.8" version. Have been super pleased with the BFG and all help Bryan has been. Great to deal with in every way. No matter...
FireBall,
Is the timing for your 1.8" version still looking like after the first of the year? Hoping to use the downtime between deer/waterfowl season and turkey season to play with the new toy. Just curious here in the south end of the state.
