      An excellent source of canning recipes is the ball blue book. You can find it at most any store around their canning supplies. Once you have the jars and the canner, this is a very economical way of preserving your food. I have a half acre garden and can most of it every year!

      Make a list of what you use on a daily basis that you don't think you can live without! Some friends of ours turn their electricity off for one weekend twice a year (summer, winter) and find out real quick what they need to survive and what they don't.

      Making Homemade Laundry Soap The powdered form of this soap is awesome! You can mass produce this stuff like crazy for next to nothing. And it's much cheaper to use than store bought soaps.... we use nothing else. My whole family has converted to this stuff and won't go back to anything else.

      Ramen Noodle soup is extremely cheap and easy to fill a tote with and store in your basement. Would be great barter food! You can fill a large storage tote for only about $30 if you find it on sale! That's a lot of noodles!! LOL
