Is it not a legal risk to give chase? It seems to me that this is beyond "stand your ground" as I understand it. He rammed the car? Did not a man in a similiar story get charged with murder when he ran criminals off the road and someone died as a result?

It may be a legal risk, but apparently the firefighter was relaying their position to a dispatcher who, presumably, was directing police in the chase. "He rammed the car" may simply have been a case of their vehicle suddenly stopping (preparing to bail out) and the firefighter hitting it because he couldn't stop. Had he shot or killed/injured an innocent party during the chase, then, yes, he'd have been at risk of legal action. As it is, I doubt he'll get more than a "talking to".
