Unfortunately I work in Illinois and have to spend most of my waking hours in this socialist black eye on the US Constitution. Abraham Lincoln must be turning in his grave. Wonder what he would say if he could come back and say a few words at the state capitol (or US Capitol for that matter). Nothing like working late in downtown Chicago. Ever been to a downtown Chicago train station at 11pm? Spooky. Then taking the late night train back to Indiana and wondering how many of the derlict looking characters sitting around me are packing. aarrrrgggghhhhh!!

One of these days I'll have to take a picture of the inmates playing basketball on the open courtyard top floor of the high-rise federal prison a few blocks from here. Hard to miss the hunter orange jumpsuits glistening in the sunlight. Paints a pretty picture doesn't it?

I'm on my evening rotation and play roullette with the 11pm train too. I have to say the 12:40 is the worst. Not a lot of ppl on that train, but the one's that are, are usually goofy.

I hear ya! I've only been on that one a couple times, and make the effort to get on one of the earlier ones. If I know I'm going to have to stay that late that day, I'll drive, but problem is I don't always know ahead of time.

    Wow, what a pit.

I've turned my fiancee to the side of truth, though. She wanted to visit an American Girl store. The nearest one is in Chicago, but she VOLUNTEERED today to go to the one in St. Louis instead, without me even having to ask. :D

Now I just have to map out how long it'll take to get to St. Louis without having to set foot on the blighted soil of ****cago.

    Sounds like a helluva drive

Gas may be expensive, but it is a lot cheaper than claiming to be a US Citizen exercising Constitutional Rights in Chicago. I'm not sure they recognize national affiliation, and they seem to have no clue what this fabled "Constitution" thing is all about.

It adds four hours to the trip.....1-way. A 4 hour drive straight down 64 turns into an 8 hour multi-interstate detour.

But I don't have to give money to ****cago, so I consider it a win. I'm sure there would be a tollbooth or seven somewhere along 64 in Illinois, and you know that money is getting dumped into some corrupt politicians pocket deep in the heart of Mordor....I mean, Chicago.

It adds 4 hours? It looks to me like it should save you about a half-hour as opposed to Chicago. No, there are no toll booths on 64 anywhere along the way, and no major metro areas (Mt.Vernon IL doesn't really count as such in my reckoning).

I'm coming from Georgetown area, and I was looking at THIS as my alternate route.

    Avoiding-Illinois Route

This is the other route...the one that has me patronizing communist establishments or at least utilizing their public roadways.

    The Evil Route

So its almost 4 hours additional....we may just tank up on food and fuel, (and disarm :xmad:) in Evansville, and try to make it through Illinois without stopping.

Drive fast and don't stop for anything! :D

We went to Wisconsin earlier this year and I just stored the sidearm unloaded in the locked center console (legal per Illinois court case) and drove strait through. They got no money from us other than tolls (that was enough). Re-armed in Wisconsin. It's like driving through occupied territory.

    That'll probably be our plan.

How do you think they'd take it if I draped Kevlar vests over my side windows?

    This....

My son wants to go to the museums in Chicago this fall. I think we will go to Indy or Dearborn instead. At least I can legally arm myself there.

It's unfortunate about the gun thing, because Chicago has some wonderful museums.
