Commander is kind of the "middle" gun.

It's a little easier to keep from sticking out of the jacket hem, it's heavy enough to be comfortable to shoot, sight radius still long enough for most folks to shoot well.

Sometimes CC, nightstand rig and even a fun gun.............Commander.

    It's the "one 1911" choice.

Better IMHO to buy an adj sight Government model and a short slide/frame (Officer's type) CC rig.

One can do it all...........but having two is probably better, and more fun :)

MIne is a Colt Defender ss model. It's considered a light weigh because is has an aluminum housing and ss frame and barrel. It's still about 34 ounces. w. a 3 " barrel.
I find the gun to be very comfortable to carry and very accurate out to about 25 yards at least. I've on occasion been able to hit coke cans at 50. ]]
Some talk about the loss of velocity w. a short barrel but most shooting occur at 6 -10 ft so I don't see the validity of the issue.
You can't go wrong with any of the better manufacturer 1911 commander models.

Looks like tomorrow before I get any trigger time with it though.

Thanks for all the replies in this thread.

I go back and forth between carrying a Kimber Ultra and Compact. Which one I carry depends on my mood more than on anything particular about either of them. I like shooting the Compact better but have to admit that the Ultra is pretty nice to carry. But, I also believe in carrying what you shoot best is more important than carrying what is easiest to carry, so the Compact rides along more often.

Both are great guns and have been very reliable. I think you'd be with either of those.

I finally got it out and shot it this afternoon. The smaller grip is giving me some trouble and the trigger still a little stiff, but I'm really happy.

Here's the best group of 7 shots at 7 yds with 230 gr Speer Gold Dots. I need to get the grip issues worked out.

I carry commander size sig 1911 iwb. I have no problem concealing it with just a tshirt. With a good holster it is plenty comfortable. Only thing is mine is full stainless so a bit heavy and i do carry extra clips.
