    I have long wanted a 1911 but after holding one i noticed i might not be able to own one due to regretably having stubby fingers. I recently purchased a M&P9 because my hand wrapped around it very well. I guess my question would be does anyone know if a simple replacement of grip would work or perhaps am i being too picky on how far around the grip my hand gets?

    Here are two Kimber Ultra Carry models.
    The blued (top) has the standard thickness grips.
    The stainless (bottom) has slim cut grips;

    It makes a HUGE difference.
    If you can get your hands on something like Springfield's Micro 45, you can see what they'll feel like...as that model comes with slims installed from the factory...

    I highly recommend Alumagrips. Very reasonable cost, excellent quality, excellent service, and you can build just about any custom grip you can think of with a 2 week turn time.

    I just got their slim grips on my 1911 and I have them on my Beretta 92F as well. These grips made both guns fell much, much more comfortable and natural in my hands. Best value around for gun grips IMHO.

    I plan on getting a review up in the next couple of weeks.

    If you don't want to buy and install slim grip screw bushings, the Ergo XT/XTR line of grips are a good medium. Another thing that improved my 1911's grip feel was installing a short aluminum trigger. Totally changes the feel. By the way, my hands fit perfectly in a Mechanix medium sized glove, if that size comparison makes sense to you.
