Churchmouse, what was the brand/type of the 1911 you bought last year for a base and had nothing but trouble with??? I remember you saying you would never buy one of that brand/type again, but I can't remember the specifics..

It was a SA MilSpec from 2002 manf. in Brazil. Bought the gun right and it ran well enough as built. When I started modifying it all several issues came up.
Way out of spec. Springfield had some real turds come out of that area before they brought the Manf. back to the states.

Just wait til you see the next AllenM custom I have in the works....it's going to be freakin awesome!

Some details... Caspian stainless slide, Colt frame, Infinity UltraMatch bull barrel, Heinie straight eight ledge night sights, EGW ignition and trigger pieces. That's enough for now. I will save the really good stuff for when Allen works his magic and posts pics.

Update I am leaning real hard towards the RO champion. While not cheap its not crazy expensive. Now the big debate 9mm or 45

I purchased a champion in 9mm a few months ago. Very nice gun. Went with 9mm because I already own other weapons in that caliber and I am already reloading 9mm as well.

Is it an alloy frame? Looks like there is a champion and a light weight champion offered. If its steal frame I think I would like the 45. I guess recoil will be the deciding factor.

Alloy frame, steel slide. Very little recoil on the 9mm. my first 1911 so I don't have anything to compare it to but the fit and finish seem very nice. I think the lightweight champion is what they are calling the new 4" emp. Also seems like a nice gun but uses proprietary magazines and some other things are not easily changeable.

I just stepped in to the 1911 world and purchased the Springfield Range Officer operator. Standard from Springfield with enhanced trigger, fiber optic sight, attachment rail, and all the Springfield gear. So far, I'm extremely happy with it. Glad I chose to save some coin.
