I have H1000 powder and 180 gr. Hornady bullets for my 30-06. I can't seem to find data anywhere for this powder until 190 gr. bullets or 200 gr. bullets.
I also have Remington 9 1/2 magnum primers. Is it true you start off 1 grain lower if using magnum primers? Components are scarce (and expensive) so I would like to use these.
I'm brand new at this so any help is appreciated.

H1000 is on the extreme end of slow burning powders and I would be surprized to find much info on it for use in the 30/06.
It is usually used in large magnum cases with heavy bullets.
You are however on the right track setting it off with mag primers

went to hodgden's web site reloading center and they show 3 loading recipies 2 for a 200 gr bullet and 1 for a 220 gr.

I would reccomend h4831 or reloader 19 as powders I have had good luck with for your application.

I'm not surprised there isn't much data for H1000, shooting 180gr bullets from a 30-'06. QuickLoad is showing <40,000 psi, even with a compressed charge. Even H4831 is a touch slow for those loads...you'd be better off with something faster, like 4350 or W760.

Thanks for the couple replies. I originally purchased these components to reload my 300 win mag, but I only have 30-06 brass and I want to get more proficient reloading before I start with the 300 win mag. Sounds like I need to use different powder or 200+ gr. bullets.

Do yourself a favor and get some H4895. It will be perfect for the '06 AND allow you to create reduced recoil practice loads for your 300 Win Mag, if that appeals to you. (It's also an excellent choice for many other rifle cartridges.)
