So I finally bought into the 300blk game. Reloading supplies for 308 subsonic are tough to come by, namely Trailboss. I ended up picking up a savage pcs in 300blk with a 10.5 inch 1/8 barrel. Getting into 300blk I read on all kinds of data and settled on vv n120 for its quietness and cleanliness.

So my question is on the quietness part. Is a 16inch barrel more quiet than a 10.5 with suppressor on it? Factory ammo was ok but I assume it was gassed up for semi auto function. I loaded up some 190gr subx rounds 10.0-11.0, 11.0 being 1088fps avg. 10.8 at 1046, and the rest being less than 1000. 10.8 was my quietest to the ear but all seemed loud.

Maybe I’m spoiled with using trailboss with 308 subs, but so far not impressed with 300blk quietness even down to 900fps with n120. My trailboss load with the same bullet is half as loud easily. Using the same bullets and can. So is barrel length the issue or another powder better suited? My year long reading escapade told me n120 was the ticket outside of the undocumented bullseye and red dot loads I saw. Also being a bolt gun not concerned with function or bho, just accuracy and sound.

I love 300blk and I have many rifles / SBRs chambered in it. I also you it for deer hunting with a 16" barrel bolt gun and supers.

As I understand it, most 300blk loads are designed to burn their powder in a 9" barrel. So anything longer is just extra.

I have only used CFE BLK and LIl Gun with Berry's 220s. In my my American (16") and they are both pretty quiet. Is your 308 a 16" barrel? Could it just be that the savage muzzle is 6" closer to your ears?

Original design was 8" with a suppressor for full burn. I see a lot more 10" then I used to.

This thread really belongs in the reloading sub-forum but...
I load 220grn berry's on top of H110 w/ a CCI 450 and run them through my Form 1 can on RAR.
They seem to be rather quiet IMHO:

5 Supers first, then some subs:
(Apologies for the bad magazine issue in the middle.)
