We had a kid crying on the field to be subbed out. Was he hurt? What was the matter you ask? He was hungry. He was also 13 years old. My son called him a *****. He finally understood why I was adamant he tough things out.

My own son was a pretty good athlete, especially weight-lifting, but he had a good dose of science nerd in him and he had several nerdy friends. One thing I was most proud of was that none of the other jocks would dare call one of his nerdy friends a ***** because they didn't want to mess with him.

i feel the USA has about 8-10 years left, if that.

i base this on our rampant spending, unchecked illegal immigration, widespread corruption from the top down, willingness to bow to the UN and the childish ways we handle N Korea/Iran/Syria etc...

the biggest reason i see the USA going down tho, is how we are/are not dealing with China and it's obvious and overt threats to the USA. their constant and blatant manipulation of the RMB (chinese dollar) by keeping it artificially deflated while the USA keeps printing, spedning and artificially inflating their dollar. soon, the USD will be replaced on a global level by the Chinese dollar and then we will truly be in a world of S**t.

and to think, this all started in the early 1900's when America was first taken off the gold standard and the Fed Reserve was created, Nixon just put the final nail in the coffin by completely removing us from the Gold Standard. Bobo the clown is putting the finishing touches on it by printing and deflating the USD value even more.

Like Rome in it's final days, we are a nation in decline. we care more about celebrities, beiber, hoffman miley, the kartrashians etc... than we do about things like outsourcing, lopsided trade agreements, oil production/power generation, supplying water to the heart of the country etc....

we want to grant rights, privledges free money to illegals. we bow to the wishes and cultures of those who cme here not to be Americans but, to bring their culture here and make US observe/respect them, not the other way around. there used to be a time when people immigrated to the USA to BE Americans, now, they come here to take advantage of our system and generosity with ZERO intent on becomming truly American.

    oh dang...i ranted.....not sorry.

being a ***** has nothing to do with being a nerd, surprised you don't understand that. Being a ***** has everything to do with a lack of toughness and intestinal fortitude. you can be a "nerd" and not be a *****....

Did you give your son a high five? While I'm not sure what level of hunger the other boy was complaining about or if there were any relevant medical conditions, I see nothing "manly" about your son's response.:twocents:

nope but i agree with him, CRYING at 5 that your hungry is acceptable, at 13 its a joke. even his mom told me once that he needs to man up. this kid acts like he's been shot at any physical contact and he is a *****

    To All,

Oh, what ivory towers we live in, wearing rose coloured glasses with a nostalgic look at the past...

The "greatest generation" supported one of the greatest big government, spend other peoples money, socialist presidents EVER - FDR!

They supported the "safety net:rolleyes:" of social security. They supported law after law that was ruled unconstitutional. They supports jobs programs that were handouts from big brother to the poor, hard working, little guy... Awww.... Weren't they sweet. And tough too.

When they got home it wasn't good enough to just live with the socialist progress of their past, oh no! They had to go and help pass medicare and medicaid. More handouts from the Baby boomers AND the greatest(:40oz:) generation.

Yes, they "stepped up" to WWII. So what? Every country when at war has good, decent citizens step up. People always do what needs to get done. Romans did. Germans did. The Chinese did. And we did. The generation before them stepped up to the Great War. The generations after them stepped up to Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Then comes the Vietnam era. Let's slam that generation. Half signed up and went to war, right or wrong. Good for them. The other half marched and protested, right or wrong. Also, good for them. Those who did not just swallow the koolaid did not sit on their lazy butts and watch the TV channel they agreed with. Right or wrong they tried to make a difference. For once they began to question the propaganda and lies that were being spoonfed to the American people. I respect anyone who at tries to make a difference even if their logic is flawed and I do not agree with them. In the end, trying is a hell of a lot more than some people do.

Now we get to the latter part of the 20th and early part of the 21st centuries. Generation Y - the Millennials. We have had thousands upon thousands of young men AND women step up and give blood and guts and bones and tears for themselves and their fallen comrades. What have they whined about? Nothing more than treating those who gave with the care and dignity that they have earned.

Friends, every generation has a few who step up and try to lead; a majority that "goes along to get along"; and a few who try to live off of the hard work and sweat of others. This is called the human condition. We haven't changed all that much over thousands of years, yet with the special glasses of memory and nostalgia we seem to think another time was better. I believe it is simply as we get older we see with greater clarity that which is happening currently and thus leads to our error of thinking about the past.

Have faith. This generation will have the same percentages as past generations and will do just fine. They will look back at their youth and see, with greater clarity, the problems of their current time. Then we will become icons of "toughing it out" while they worked and their youth will be a punch of pansies.

And the cycle goes on while history repeats itself.

    Regards,

    Doug

I think there are still many men and women of fine character in our society and yes, in our schools. It's about formation. Maybe 50 or 60 years ago good formation was easier to come by than it is now. Many false ideals come into vogue in the decades since. It's easy to see that we as a society have lost a sense of right and wrong, to put it more bluntly, we have lost a sense of sin. We can't call a spade a spade, because we have forgotten what a spade looks like. People actually scoff at the word "sin" as if were some archaic notion, but are more than willing to accept it in so many different varied forms and with all its sad consequences, whether we recognize them as consequences of our actions or not. As uncomfortable as people are with the very concept of sin, we are ready to accept all forms of vulgarity and crudeness in so many different realms of our lives and call it cutting edge entertainment, or free thinking when in fact it is rampant error. Sin is even imposed upon us by law and crammed down our throats as necessary for the freedom of all, and yet we see our true freedoms somehow dwindling away in spite of so much activism in the name of so called freedom. Maybe we have confused liberty with license.

There are activities where not everyone gets a trophy, you have to seek them out. While we are tossing out the Wussy moniker; if your under 35 yrs old you're probably a man boy and just dont know it. The greatest generation produced the worst generation and its been down hill ever since. The US is on its 3rd generation of young men raised predominantly by women; there lies the problem.

They're gone being indoctrinated for 8-9 of their waking hours every day. You think you're going to make up for that on the weekends without losing some ground/

I guess we have a different definition of 'manly'.

Many in this thread seem to define it as:
    • Working hard (at your job)
    • Knowing how to hunt
    • Knowing how to camp
    • Living in a rural area
    • Good at fighting

Only the first in this list belongs there, in my opinion.

And I am not lacking in most of these attributes, before the accusations start.

But you get a pass for letting mommy send the kids off to liberal boot camp because she just wasn't fulfilled enough at home.[/Q

I truly hope the last sentence is not aimed at me.
If it is I have a few things you need to know.
You have no idea what you are saying and that is in my opinion out of line. You have no idea what "Mommy" sacrificed for her children or how hard we worked to get them set in this life. She did all that was required and so much more while holding down a good job.
Liberal boot camp...WTF are you smoking.
Take your pass back. We do not need it.

Maybe some of the critics of the thread misunderstand what people are lamenting. By "pussies" I don't think anyone's saying that men need to be macho *******s. You don't have to bench press 3x your weight. You don't have to be a lumberjack. You don't have to camp, hunt, fish, play baseball, football, whatever, to be a man.

I'm just saying pussies make molehills into mountains and melt down at the first sign of adversity. To me, not being a ***** means handling adversity without melting down. And no, it's not just about men either. Strong women don't melt into puddles of tears and mascara every time things don't go their way. Both men and women can be drama queens and I think many of us are noticing there seems to be more of them as generations pass.

I blame it on law suit happy helicopter parents. If I get stuck behind a school bus in the morning, the damn thing stops at every driveway. And at the foot of almost every driveway is a running minivan with mom or dad coddling little johnny waiting warm and toasty for the bus. Why, I had to walk ten miles through three foot snow drifts when I was a kid. Am I sounding like a grumpy old man yet?

Seriously people don't have to raise pussies. They just want their kids to have it better than they did. I get that. Hovering and coddling I guess seems the best way to do that. Helicopter parents have turned our schools into coddling zones. It's contributing to the proliferation of pussies. I think making mine better prepared for the world than I was IS giving them more than I had.

Oh, and there was a question about why the greatest generation raised the first generation of pussies. Well, collectively speaking, dad came home from WWII and just wanted to sit in the easy chair for awhile, read the news paper, drink a beer, watch some TV. Not surprising that he didn't want to talk much. He experienced some pretty screwed up stuff.

So, you're calling me a 'man boy' without even having met me because I was raised by a woman and am under your random age of 35. So I take it you're a stay at home dad and are with your kids 24/7? ...we sure wouldn't want any women to influence their lives and make turn them in to a 'man boy.'

well done, you captured the essence of the thread. its about toughing things out, not whining, complaining, seeking special status, thinking you are entitled and that you are the only one on planet earth.

That may be true. My brother volunteered because he was sure he'd be drafted anyway. He thought that he could at least have some choice of which service. So he enlisted in the Navy. Wound up in Vietnam patrolling rivers in as a gunners mate.
