Accuracy 10/22 vs 77/22

Alright, so I have been itching to step into long range precision shooting. I would like to start off with a .22 since its the most affordable to shoot to build proper technique and skill.. I have a Ruger 10/22 and a Ruger 77/22. I can only upgrade one right now. I understand accuracy is only as good as the shooter. But taking out the shooter, which rifle would potentially be the most accurate out to 100 yards?

I have both a 77/22 and a 10/22. The 77/22 still has the stock barrel and the 10/22 has a Green Mt sporter barrel. Both are very accurate. but the 77/22 definitely has the edge at longer ranges. I have taken squirrels with head shots out to about 120 yards with mine and a muskrat that was ranged at 130 yrds. I have several 22s and my 77/22 will outshoot all of them.

My 77/22 is a great shooter. Has the edge over the 10/22 for sure.

I'd say the 77/22 is definitely more accurate out of the box... but if you want to spend a million dollars, the aftermarket options for the 10/22 probably can catch or exceed the 77/22... but I doubt that its worth it at this point if your goal is practice.

Keep the 77/22 stock and considering you are new at long rang shooting... my guess is you won't need to do anything to it for awhile.

i've got both.built with barrels, stocks, triggers, scopes etc. pm me if interested in seeing or shooting them next weekend. with both builds theres not much difference....daryll

Agreed... you could definitely upgrade the 10/22 to be more accurate than the 77/22 is stock, but given that you have both, I'd just go with 77/22 from the get-go.
