I'm at work where I can't access AA load data. My LGS does not have IMR 4198, but he does carry a good amount of Accurate Arms powders. Does anyone have a good recommendation for an AA powder with Hornady's 325 gr flextip?

I'm loading for a Marlin 1985. Thanks for any info!

    Accurate lists Trapdoor(<18kPSI), Standard (<28kPSI), and Ruger #1,#3 (<40kPSI).

Note that Accurate's data PSI and Hodgson's data is CUP and they are not interchangeable. For what it's worth the ballistician at Alliant has been very prompt in returning my emails.

Hodgdon data for Ruger #1 and #3 is for 50k CUP, so based on the usage, the correct data for the 1895 is listed above.

    40kPSI data (Ruger #1, #3)
45-70 Government (Ruger No. 1 and 3 less than 40,000 psi)

The Hodgdon site indicates max loads for the Marlin 1895 with 350 gr bullets over 2000 fps, some over 2100 fps. If 28kPSI roughly equates to 40K CUP, it would appear that AA powders are about 300-400 fps slower than some others as far as the 45/70 goes. Strange that there is that much difference, but hard to know when we aren't compairing apples to apples.

I'd like to be closer to the hodgdon 40KCUP numbers than the AA 28K PSI numbers. Not that I need the fastest load. I'll be shooting at less than 150 yds for sure. Thanks for looking into it.

Based on other cartridges that I load, I would think that 28kPSI is not equivalent to 40k CUP, but the two test methods can only be roughly correlated, and certainly not between cartridges.
