adding a forward grip

so, i've played with this little beauty some already, and i think i'd like to put a vertical grip on it.
first off, as far as i've read there would be no legal ramifications for doing this, but if anyone knows better than me, please say so.

second, instead of replacing the forend, what would happen if i just drilled starter holes and bolted a rail on it?

You might could put a rail on it. I'd go with a new fore end myself, and add a buttstock, but it's your gun.

It is the interplay of state and federal law.

Under Indiana law your weapon is a handgun, but not under federal law.

The fact that there is a law that you have to ask about how your weapon looks is the stupid.
