This is such a silly non-issue. Your kids are more likely (by a lot, statistically) to be sexually assaulted by a relative or someone they know, than a random stranger. 90% of children that are molested or assaulted know their attacker well, and better than 60% of the time it's a relative or parent. People have been using restrooms that don't match their equipment, whether you knew it or not. And this is beside that fact that sexual assault, rape and the like are already against the law.

I know it sounds strange, but I've always been more careful about the people my kid knows, than the ones she doesn't. Yes, we tell her about stranger danger and what not, but I know that in most cases that's not the cause.

I don't get it. When there's a mass shooting, we understand that we're not like Elliott Rodger, we're not like Christopher Harper-Mercer, we're not like Dylann Roof, we're not like Adam Lanza just because we own guns. We understand that you don't judge the entire group for the conduct of a few individuals.

So why is it that when someone suffers from gender identity issues, we assume that they're all perverts, instead of just holding a handful of actual perverts accountable for their own actions?

We also see much ridicule of 'gun free zones' not stopping violent attackers from bringing in guns. Apparently "male genitalia free zones" work much better against violent attackers.

This is more of a statement towards where we are as a society.
When a much younger man this would never have even been considered let alone discussed.

if signs stopped criminals, there wouldn't be any school shootings.

same thing here. No sign or rule is going to stop a determined sexual predator from attempting an assault.

and it's the not the transgendered people who commit these assaults anyway. I imagine transgendered people have been using the "wrong" bathrooms for a long time. This whole thing is an election year manufactured issue and as usual republicans are only too willing to hang themselves.

I just had this argument with someone. They told me that I hated transgenders and I fear them because they are different. I never once brought up transgenders. I only said it opens the door for sickos and perverts to walk into a restroom of their choice without anyone being able to do anything. I asked if they were OK with a 55 year old man being in the restroom with their 15 year old daughter. No response. I asked all kinds of questions, no response. The only response i got was how i hated and feared transgenders, eventhough i said it has nothing to do with transgenders. This whole thing is media leftwing manufactured and its meant to make the culture sick and divide more people. No one honestly wants men in the restroom with women. Its just common sense. They must use the leftwing garbage of hate and fear to make themselves feel like they are correct. Then i get the whole "well people are gonna do what they want regardless of a sign or policy" and that means they lost the argument. It's just more liberal trash. Change the culture and get people to hate others, by telling them that those people are hating others(worded weird but you get it).

To the point a guy said on the first page of "diversity made this country great"....NO, like minded individuals who wanted FREEDOM made this country great. They may be different in skin color or where they were born, but they were of the same ideology and mind set. A white communist, black socialist, chinese libertarian, english conservative, mexican moderate, and asian atheist are diverse, and would kill each other if they had to live together. diversity and equality are ideas that do exactly the opposite of what the left praises them for. Sorry, diversity is what is destroying the country, diversity in ideology, not skin color.

We have mostly tolerated cross dressers in bathrooms for years, so long as they don't cause an issue just a smile and a nod. This whole issue is nothing more than a government created distraction to keep our minds occupied and off of. Much bigger issues like treason.

The problem that I have with this issue is that it is the government that is involved with our using the restroom. Currently, are there laws against those who chose to use a restroom of the opposite sex? If not, then why is government trying to create laws to permit people to use the restroom of the opposite sex? This is a solution looking for a problem.

People say that in certain countries in Europe everyone uses the same restroom. What they don't say is that those restrooms have a common wash basin area but the restrooms are completely separate rooms with doors so they aren't actually exposed to others. Here in the United States most of our restrooms have flimsy dividers that are open above head height and open at the floor. There is no comparison.

If a business wants to make a genderless restroom, then let them make it with completely separate stalls so there is individual privacy and keep government out of our restrooms.

Who even looks at other people in public restrooms? I've gone to the restroom in the "ladies' room" before (usually at those places that have "one-holers" and the men's room is occupied and nature's forces cannot be held in check much longer). Freaks and perverts peeking and photographing probably happens about as often as actual trannies are IDed in a gender opposite restroom. This is about force. This is about forced acceptance of a chosen lifestyle. This is about the cool kids rushing to be on the right side of history and be seen doing so.

Hopefully this fad will pass soon enough.

The shock will be in men finding out how nasty women's restrooms are

THIS times eleventyseven! Womens restrooms are the nastiest place on the planet. They are so afraid of touching anything they hover and pee and poop all over everything but the bowl opening. And they have the gall to say WE are disgusting. I PITY the Female identifying TG who has to go into that mess.

Im sure it wasnt started as a distraction, but they are more than happy to gin it up to make it one with everything else going on. Now that there are LGBTQAEIOUs* out there that are feeling emboldened by the recent gay rights movement, the SJWs among them want a piece of the action. They want confirmation legally of what they have been doing for decades without much fuss. This is .03% of the population we are talking about. The only thing I am the slightest bit annoyed about is that there are now laws that cover one of the most minutest slivers of society while others are ignored. Dammit! I'm left handed and we comprise more than 10% of the population. Where are the laws requiring left handed crap? Huh!??!

And an example of everyone wanting a piece? Suddenly EVERYONE no matter how nuanced their non-normative sexual identity, insists on an exact and specific label and identity. (entitlement generation anyone?) What is Facebook up to now? 56 sexual/gender identities? Its no longer kosher to be pigeonholed into a general category of gay/straight/bi. So for me, Its not cool to be hetero, I have to be labeled as a left handed brown haired hetero that prefers curvy blondes. Just calling me hetero is offensive and I deserve to be identified for EXACTLY who I am. After all I am TOTALLY not like the guy who is a brown haired right handed hetero that prefers black haired petite cheerleader types. Nope, night and day, cant you SEE that? If you arent you are an insensitive b*****rd that needs to be shamed!

I for one dont fear a TG in the bathroom with my kids. They arent the child molesting sickos that they are being painted with a VERY broad brush. I am acquainted with a few and they are generally good people. (One's a real a-hole, but for reasons TOTALLY unrelated to gender identity) What I DO fear is some pervy dipsh** who decides to abuse a poorly crafted law like an idiot would claim castle doctrine to shoot a fleeing suspect who is a danger to no one. But am I REALLLY worried about that? Not hardly. Those are going to be few and far between. I'm more worried about finding a rattlesnake during one of our walks in the woods than I am one of these opportunistic pervs.

And I think the cycle is amplified by our sharing society and how money is made on the internet. EVERYONE has a voice now, so it gets amplified. And TONS of sites make money off controversy with ad revenue, so they take every opportunity to stir the puddin to get you to click a link and make money off that click. Between the polarized nature of the discussion, and the National Enquirer level of clickbait headlines just stokes the fires even more. (and the entitlement generation isnt helping matters any)

*and seriously. acronyms were created to make them shorter than words. They have tacked on so many different minute variations of "not straight/not cisgender**" that the overarching acronym to include (almost) everyone is now longer than a word. Can somebody just invent a new 4 or 5 letter word to describe "not straight/not cisgender**". Please?

**"Cisgender: self-identifying as the gender you were born." for you old fashioned types.

My issue with this whole tans-gender people using the bathroom according to their sexual identity has nothing to do with trans-gender people at all. Which honestly I couldn't care less who is in the stall next to me, so long as they mind their own business and not make a spectacle of themselves. Act like a decent person and I will treat you like a decent person.

My problem is, after this law gets repealed and I'm sure it will, the next step is enacting a law that gives trans-gender people the RIGHT to use the bathroom in which gender they identify with. Again I don't care what bathroom trans-gender people use. They've been doing it for YEARS without any problems as far as I know. I am not trying to keep anyone from being happy and living their life they way they want. If you aren't hurting anybody, who am I to say the way you're living is right or wrong? I don't think that GENUINELY trans-gender people are the problem or the ones you have to really worry about.

My problem is what opportunities will become available to the straight sexual predators, perverts and peeping toms. Once a law is passed granting a male the RIGHT to enter a woman's bathroom because he says that he is trans-gender, allows for NON TRANS-GENDER sexual predators the ability to linger around and enter the woman's restroom without question. All you would have to do is get a dress, put on a wig along with some make-up, and you have an all access pass to the ladies room. Nobody would question why a male is in there, just hanging out, possibly trying to secretly snap a quick picture, or maybe a short video from over head of the woman in the stall next to him. Nobody would be ALLOWED to question him because he has the RIGHT as a "trans-gender" to be there!

How can we determine who the REAL trans-gender people are as opposed to any possible imitators, that just want to spy on women in the bathroom?

It's already happened in Canada, although not involving bathrooms specifically, this man used the guise of being trans-gender to gain entry to a woman's shelter where he proceeded to sexually harass and assault multiple women.

Sexual predator jailed after claiming to be ‘transgender’ to assault women in shelter

I don't doubt for a single second some pervert would hesitate to dress up like a woman in order to get in the women's bathroom.
Why would they overlook this opportunity to sexually assault/spy on women or little girls without fear of reprisal?
And yes, I am saying men (STRAIGHT MEN) will be the ones perpetrating these offences most often. These laws will simply give them the ability to do it more freely.

Public businesses need to either stop providing restrooms, or make them private one seaters with a locking door...like we all have at home.

Exactly!!!! Funny how those on here that claim that 90% of molestation only happens with relatives so the bathroom is a none issue….well most of the time. So you guys since the odds that in your life you will never have to draw and shoot someone in self defense why bother to carry a gun….most likely you will never need it….so sell your guns and don't carry them anymore…..the odds are so slim……who here is going to that….? I thought so.

It seems to me that there are a lot of people reacting emotionally to this thing who haven't taken the time to think it through.

If a woman identifies as a man and goes in a men's room, that person is not equipped to use a urinal and will use a stall.

If a man identifies as a woman and goes in a woman's room, that person may be equipped to use a urinal, but there are none so this person will use a stall as well.

The practical reality is that on most occasions if a person is in a restroom with someone who is the opposite sex they are going to be completely oblivious of that fact unless they make a point of violating that person's privacy.

The issue of men molesting women in restrooms is the silliest argument of all. I spent my life in law enforcement and if any of your female relatives are molested by a sexual predator it won't be a transgender male and it WON'T happen in a women's restroom. The existence or non-existence of any law will have NO effect whatsoever on this.

Do I care if a transgender male uses a women's restroom with my wife or daughter?

No. I don't. Not one damned bit. And I have decades of experience in dealing with REAL sexual predators, not harmless individuals who are being used as political pawns by bigoted, childish legislators trying to buy votes.

These laws are a messy, expensive, polarizing solution to a completely non-existent problem.

Except now there WILL be a problem in the form of self-appointed restroom police. It's already started. I read a news account online not a half-hour ago in which some clown followed a woman, who identifies and LIVES as a woman, into a WOMAN'S restroom and challenged her because HE didn't think she looked enough like a woman.

    And so it begins.

We Americans are so wrapped up about sex it is amazing at times that we even breed at all.

Why do we have separate bathrooms in the first place? When I was using a stall in the Louvre in Paris I set my daypack down on the sink next to where I was. While I was standing there doing my business the cleaning lady came in and began doing her job. She noticed the pack and asked if it was mine. I turned slightly and responded in the affirmative. So I finish my business while she continues to clean.

It wasn't until after I left that I thought, "Hey! Wait a minute, I just had a conversation with a WOMAN in the mens toilet." And guess what? We all survived this horrific disruption of the laws of American society. The sky did not fall and the world did not end.

We sure do seem to get wrapped up in petty crap. I guess it keeps us from focusing on real issues like $19 trillion in debt, or about $131 trillion in unfunded liabilities, or Social Security never being right from day one...

    Regards,

It's not about the bathroom. It's about the unending destruction of what America was, and the anger at being raped by the tax code while being told you're a racist, sexist, bigot for trying to live your life.

I hope that gun toters are not getting as hysterical about their unlikely chances of becoming a victim of a violent crime as they are about the boogieman waiting in a Target restroom for their unsuspecting kids. Be vigilant when going about your day, armed or not, taking a deuce in the Target bathroom or not. Lots of Chicken Littles running around.
