The Greeks fought their way out a couple of thousand years ago. Is this the fate of the modern soldier? To be abandoned in that country?

Pakistan won't allow trucks with supplies for US and NATO troops to cross the border. Russia is threatening to shut off the ground route from the north. US aircraft can only supply 35% of the need.

What is the plan Fearless Leader to get our countrymen and women out of there?

IRAN, but now that we're out of Iraq makes that a wee bit tougher.

On a slighlty different (and much, MUCH less important note than US troop supply) I travel to India frequently for work. Doing so right now means a direct flight from Newark that flies over Russia, and several of the "Stans" including Afghanistan and Pakistan.

It wiill be interesting to see if these tactics result in them closing off airspace for civilian flights originating from the US. It was just a few years ago that flights from the US went to Europe and then down across the Mediteranian and N. Africa on the way into India and other Middle Eastern and Southern Asia destinations.

I don't see them doing that anytime soon, but depending on how Dear Leader handles this situation could affect how these countries handle non-military concessions.

Here is something else to think about? What if Russia and Pakistan decide to shut their airspace off? I don't think we have to worry about Pakistan's air force, but I think we would have our hands full with the Russian Air Force. It has been a long time since we have had to fight an air war where we were equally matched.

I recently read an article in a military history magazine about the air war over Korea. Everybody knows we held a high kill ratio over the North Korean and Chinese MIG-15's. The article mentioned that the Soviets actually had fighter groups in Korea. They worked very hard at keeping it a secret, but the U.S. military was aware of their presence. Truman didn't press the issue because he didn't want to start WWIII with the Soviets. Anyway, the article mentioned that we didn't hold the same kill ratio over the Soviets. It said our F-86's were fairly evenly matched against the MIG-15's flown by Soviet pilots.

What would happen if the Russians and even the Chinese "helped" Pakistan defend their air space in a similar manner?

I say let them. Let them hold the wolf by the ears for a while and see how they like it. If they are thinking of using Pakistan as a weapon against us, well, a wise man said "A treacherous weapon is oft a danger to the hand."

The Pakistani's arent that stupid. They know that any future financial aid is coming with strings attached and that if they persist in the border being closed they run the risk of suddenly being "flipped" and declared a supporter of terrorism and subject to the full prosecution of the Global War On Terror (GWOT). How quickly could Nato and the US turn from the Taliban and ovethrow this terrorist sympethetic regime? Nukes or not, they have to know that when it gets critical for our people, we wil react.
