Wondering if anyone has any quick/easy hints to help get my new scope installed correctly.
I'm trying to figure out how to properly center/level it so that the cross-hairs are perpendicular to the barrel (right angle).

I've heard people aiming the rifle/new scope at an object that should be a known level quantity, like a building or a garage door header, but that involves me aiming my rifle at my neighbor's house...

    Thanks in advance!

Hang a string from the ceiling with a weight on it.
Level the rifle on a rest or sandbags
Make the vertical line of the reticle line up with the string.

Don't overtighten the screws for the rings. I've seen more scope problems caused by that than I can count. Get them snug and with even gaps on both sides of the rings, but not too tight.

    Thanks for all the advice!
I just got a Nikon Monarch 2.5-10x for X-Mas and am going to install it on my Remington 700.
    This will help a lot.

Pay special attention to the distance between your face (eye socked) and the rifle optics. If the scope is not set up properly you could get a facial injury. Consider having a gun smith drilling the scope mount crew holes forward to give a better clearance. There are articles on the web regarding hoe to set up your scope. Good luck and happy shooting.
