    Things to do:

    Increase her life insurance
    get EMT training
note gps location for lifeline flight
note location of wire fencing, low branches and other impact hazards.
when above tasks are done, forget about purchasing said ATV.

ATVs in general are not dangerous. Its what people try to do with them that puts them in danger.

If it looks to steep to climb then it probably is. If it looks to steep to try to decend then it probably is.

Racing ATVs is the most dangerous thing you can do on one.

As to what the OP's wife is wanting it for, just playing around on a farm, then Im sure as long as she wears appropriate safety gear she will be fine.

Most of the time when I hear of someone being injured on an ATV it is because they are either, racing, trying to do somthing with it that it was never ment to do, or they were not wearing a helmet.

kawtech87-Very true, but the case of the stupid happens too many times with them. A friend of my son had his head split in two from a stop sign. He flew his ATV over the road and .....was killed

Wow. Im very sorry to hear that sir.

Unfortunately bad things can and do happen, and that is why saftey gear is always a must.

Every time, all the time. No exceptions.

Be more of a checklist for ME.

She's the responsible, been around ATV's all her life person. I like to do stupid things with fast vehicles.

How about fixing her with a 60 hp race quad......? She'll have a blast....lol

She'd have to pry it away from me to get to ride it.

I am also sorry for the loss. That being said what was he doing in the road or near it? I also think parents let their kids ride machines that are way above their riiding ability. It is not the ATVs fault. He made a mistake or several and it cost him his life. Just like guns they need to be treated with respect and always follow the safety guidlines.
