If you're talking about those things that look like a giant match that burns for about 10 minutes on their own, you can pick them up at Wal-Mart, Dick's or Menards. I do see them on sale at Menards from time to time. They always seemed to get cleaned out when they go on sale there.

They are the magnesium sticks that you shave then throw a spark on.
    Magnesium Fire starters.

Menards has them for a little less than $5. They're on clearance right now.
    Wal-Mart has them for $8 - $9
Can't remember the price at Dicks or Gander Mountain.
Harbor Freight had them for $4 at one time. Don't know if they still stock them.

If you're talking about ferrocerium rods or firesteels I have a few around here somewhere. What size do you need?

Your rod will need a striker to make sparks. Always have extra strikers for you rod
My favorite striker that I always have with me is the back edge of my Spyderco Delica. The 90 degree edge creates adequate striking surfaces I can use with the blade closed.
