Tested the 45 colt shotshells real quick today. First two targets are at 10’. Dotted lines circle is 12”. Not sure why the second shot is tighter. Hit point of aim and patterned fairly well for me. The 20’ target was a but low. Not sure of that was me or what. I shot some steel plates at ten yards and you can mostly make out the pattern around the bullet strikes. I didn’t have any paint with me. It did Rick the steel pretty well at that distance. I shor three rounds, the reloaded and shot three more. THen loaded up four and on the third shot, round number four came apart and dumped the shot out, so I either need to secure the over shot wad better, or just load one or two shotshells before bulleted loads (my plan anyways).

Very interesting results, by the by, I like the way you make targets.
I got a bunch of cardboard years ago on a jobsite and decided to make some ipsc targets. I found the dimensions and drew one out and cut it out with a razor knife. I then Used that one as a template and traced around it to cut more out. Then said screw that! Put a duct tape handle on it and laid it in the cardboard and just spray painted around the outside edge!! Simple, cheap, and fast! And if I get to going too fast, I can at least see my misses!

Oh, this is mild compared to some of the stuff I’ve done…
    Speaking of experimenting...
I made a 38 special rd that used a 125gr bullet and behind that a 00 buck pellet..
I found with a cereal box cut wad between the powder and the 00 buck pellet it would stay within 3" of where the bullet impacted on the target at 10yds. The closer to the target it got. The closer together the pellet would be to the bullet impact. I called it a double tap round.
Without the wad it would fly about 12" from the bullet impact. That was a huge difference and the test with both styles was repeatable.
Reason for the experiment was an article I read about something similar.
I was using my Ruger LCRx 2" 38 special for the experiment. A longer barrel may change the outcome, however I can't confirm that.

I had some 375” roundballs from a 36 cal BP revolver and loaded two of them up in a .38 case before. Also ,add snake shot loads ; kind of buck and ball loads with powder, wad, shot, then topped off with one of those round balls. Worked pretty good. Also loaded two 454 round balls in a .45 colt case before. About the same results as you describe. Fun stuff!
