It uses the p90 mags, loads from the top, and looks like it ejects spent casings out of the lower magwell.

If it loads from the top, why does the third pic have a tan pmag in the magwell? Just to keep the right "look?".

the guys over at FiveseveNForum.com • Index page have all kinds of info about anything you could ever imagine to do with any gun that uses the 5.7mm. a lot of them have nice suppressed SBR ar-57s.

the gun shop down the street from me has one for sale for about the same as the rest of their ARs. i'd really like to shoot it, especially since i own a fiveseven.

These have been around for three or four years, cost has really come down much on them even tho places like cheaper than dirt and sportsman's guide have had them. I just don't see the advantage of the smaller round in a full size action.

the only thing i could see is wanting the increase mag capacity without wanting to shell out for a PS 90 / wanting to use your existing AR accessories

I have one. Upper goes on any AR15 lower just like the regular upper. 5.7x28 is a lightweight and rather expensive round. A fun gun to shoot - little to no recoil, hicap magazine (30 or 50 rounds) and different to look at.

Lots of critics of the 5.7 round - to small, to light, NO KILLING POWER. I guess those critics shoot lots of live game with their AR's. The 5.7 has killed every paper target or other object I have fired it at.

Forgive the quality of the picture, it is just an inventory shot. Also, it now has a Aimpoint clone on it.

I watched Trek from MDFI leave his AR57 "pistol" (because you can't have an SBR in MI) in lovemywoods' lake while we ate lunch. Afterward he picked it out and fired a full magazine.

you mean you can't spring for $25 / magazine? ;)

I'm assuming you are being facetious? I sure hope so...

As previously pointed out in EVERY thread on EVERY forum that has ever mentioned the 5.7x28 cartridge:

    * The 5.7 ammunition is no more expensive than any common pistol cartridge. 50 rounds of 5.7 ammunition can currently be had for as little as $18 online, and $21 in brick and mortar stores, with $23 being the more common real world price. These top shelf cartridges are NO MORE EXPENSIVE than bargain bin practice 40 and 45 ammunition.

    * Despite the ammo craze, FN kept the flow of 5.7 ammunition constant and, more importantly, NEVER inflated the price. This is despite the fact that FN has established a sizable captive consumer base.

    I don't even own a 5.7 caliber weapon
, but it really GETS MY GOAT to hear people who shoot 40, 45, 357, ect. complain about how they will never buy a 5.7 due to ammo COST.

Your not paying $25 for an 8 round, 1911 magazine here. Your paying $23 for a 50 round magazine that holds an entire stinking box of bullets.

i was being facetious. but unless you're buying bulk online, the best you can hope for, like you said, is about $23/50. you can get .40 at walmart for $16/50. it's more than a modest difference, but for some people it's enough, especially when you start talking 50rd mags. so while it's not prohibitively expensive, the cost was enough to prompt me to make a bulk order of 5.7mm online so that i could reload for cheaper as i burnt through the factory ammo.

that being said, i shoot/reload both .40 and 5.7mm and based on the amount of time it takes to size and trim all of those tiny shells, i'm still up in the air as to whether or not it's worth saved. :twocents:

That's technically true - but Walmart is one of the FEW retails that hasn't jacked their prices through the roof. Most retailers have 40 and 45 priced at $23/$25 for Blazer, WWB, and PMC.

yeah. the local guy who sells bulk reloads still charges roughly that much for a box of 50 reloads. ~$20 for .40 and ~$23 for .45.

    wal-mart won that battle.

Last I checked, Midway had a standard 2000 round case of 5.7x28 for a couple of dollars over $700. Last I checked, the cheapest brass cased .223 was about the same price.
