Ok, last year I built dad an AR for Xmas. It has A2 handguards around a NM free-float tube.

He wants the rifle to look like ones he shot when he was in the service, and tried to out A1 handguards on it, but they won't clear the free-float tube...

Does anyone make an A1 style triangular handguard that will clear a NM free-float tube? I know they probably won't be the original dimensions (especially at the muzzle end) but he can them have the look and the ff tube.

Can they be modified? (it didn't look to me like they could, but when he showed me, I was on my way somewhere else, and he'd returned them before I had a chance to really sit down and look)
