AR15 Recoil

My Hi Point 995 has more perceived recoil than either of my 223 rifles. One is an AR and the other is a bolt action. It is all in the equipment and the way it is designed. The 995 just slams things around. It is still fun to shoot. It is even worse than my 45 Colt lever action.

This discussion reminded me of something ... True story ... NRA Certified Firearms Instructor told a class that the reason the muzzle of the gun goes up is because hot gases tend to rise.

If that was true I would float off the toilet.

I hardly find any kick when I was shooting my S&W M&P15T. YOur friend must be shooting differently.

The reason the 9mm AR kicks more, is because you are firing a bullet twice the weight (115 or 125 grain) than the standard 5.56mm/.223 caliber 55 or 62 grain bullet!

My Dad told me the same story... Must have been a popular thing for the Drill Sergeants in that era... What was a DI doing @ Ft. Knox? Did he get lost going between Parris Island and MCRD San Diego?

They were called DIs in the army (among other things we called them)

My 11 year old just shot mine this weekend and loved it. Doing pretty good at 50 yards too! Give them a Mosin to shoot, then the AR will be nothing.
