Not only did did the passing gentleman stop the man trying to kill the trooper, another guy stops climbs in the patrol car of the trooper and radios for help. I love country folk one of the best stripes of people around.

    Yes.
When something is taken from somebody who committed a legal act (self defense) and not returned IS theft.
If God forbid somebody has to use their gun in self defense, it should be returned to them the moment it's established at the scene that they're the "good guy".

You do know that police officers also have their guns "stolen," when they're involved in a fatal shooting too right? Any tool that is involved in the death of another, bat, knife, tire iron, or gun is taken for evidence, and should be held until the conclusion of the investigation. You're not going to establish, on scene, without the shadow of a doubt, whether one is a "good guy" or not.

Yea and the, Cop if cleared for duty, gets another taxpayer funded duty weapon and returns to regular normal life, however the citizen 'good guy' has to do without or get a gun another from his options, cleared or not and carry on.

People in stressful situations do odd things. That is not a criticism, but an observation.

    Samaritan: Trooper, are you ok?
Trooper (getting his head bashed against the pavement): Gghhruhdhun...
Douchebag: He's fine, we're only messing around. We're really lovers.
    Samaritan: He doesn't look fine.
    Trooper: GHUHHRHUSHUGNG
Douchebag: This isn't what it looks like. He was banging my wife.
Samaritan: I think you should let him up now, he's doesn't look right.
    Trooper: GHhugh Kuhruhr hifhfurh
Douchebag: See, he said he's fine.
Samaritan: Look, I'm getting my gun.
    Trooper: SHOOOOT HIIIIIMMM

I know I'm late to the thread, but this is the best thing I've read all day!
