    Ayres to defile Purdue University

    Matthew May
William Ayres will appear at Purdue University on September 24th as a panelist about urban schools as part of the first annual Cummings-Perrucci Annual Lecture on Race, Class, and Gender Equality.

Ayres will hit the campus in West Lafayette, Indiana, according to a story in today’s Lafayette Journal & Courier under the curious headline “Ex-radical to attend forum at Purdue.” Ex-radical?

According to the story, some groups are already organizing protests against Ayres and the university. Political Science professor Harry Targ – who was singled out in David Horowitz’s book as one of America’s most dangerous academics – takes his cue from the Obama playbook to downplay the protests and further cloud the murky past, saying it is “foolish” to make a political issue out of the Ayres appearance:

“I assume he was invited because of his competency in education,” Targ said, apparently unaccompanied by a laugh track. “It is unfortunate that people want to protest this.

“If there is any hoopla, it will be extraneous. It was 40 years ago when he did this stuff.”

Well, by that standard, may we Purdue graduates look forward down the road to Theodore Kaczynski giving a remote lecture on the dangers of TNT?

Ayres was invited to this event by the Department of Sociology. There are some within the College of Liberal Arts at Purdue who insist on not merely inviting individuals of questionable merit, but intentionally giving radical lunatics – and now a real, live self-proclaimed terrorist – a forum to spew their oft-discredited drivel. Two years ago it was the political science department helping underwrite an appearance by Cindy Sheehan. Now it is William Ayres.

This invitation to Ayres is but the latest example of why any personal funds earmarked for donation to higher education from this Purdue grad will be headed to Hillsdale, Michigan. But if some at Purdue are so eager to have the terrorist as a guest on campus, they could do one thing to raise money from we disgruntled Boilermakers: Invite Ayres to a public forum to answer some questions posed by a Purdue graduate named Jack Cashill.

Same logic as Fat Teddy. Hey, I killed Mary Jo 40 years ago, what's the big deal.
Wasn't it the liberals that claimed "Words have meaning.":dunno:

In a county where the county courthouse was bombed, Purdue University will invite a bomber.

That's nothing sort of brilliant, Purdue. You stay classy!

While a student, like many schools, I was sickened by how much crap takes place by the kids there. The only good side is most every give no da mn about most of these things. A few people show up unless it gets too much publicity.

But free speech is free speech.

Weather Underground founder to speak at Purdue | IndyStar.com | The Indianapolis Star

Ayers, 64, is a distinguished professor of education and senior
university scholar at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He will speak
on "Inequality and Education: The Challenge for Urban Schools" at the
inaugural Cummings-Perrucci Annual Lecture on Class, Race and Gender
    Equality.

In the early 1970s, Ayers and other Weathermen opposed the war in
Vietnam, sometimes by highly publicized bombings of public buildings.
Evacuation notices were issued prior to the explosions, and no members
    of the public were harmed.

In 2008, Ayers became a focal point in Democratic candidate Barack
Obama's presidential campaign because of Ayers' radical past and his
    friendship with Obama.

Ayers, who was named Chicago's Citizen of the Year in 1997, still stirs
controversy. Some Lafayette area residents are organizing to protest his
    appearance.

"I'm not against anyone having free speech, but I think there is a
difference between someone speaking politically and somebody who is a
terrorist," said Jared Fagan, director of the Citizens in Action group.

"I was shocked when I heard about him coming to Purdue."

Citizens in Action has organized several local health forum town hall
meetings and "tea party" protests. On Wednesday, the group organized a
protest aimed at disrupting a vigil for health care reform at Riehle
    Plaza downtown.

Calls and e-mail questions to faculty members in the Purdue Department
of Sociology were not returned Thursday. Attempts to talk with Ayers in
time for this story were not successful.

Harry Targ, a political science professor at Purdue, said it is "foolish
to politicize" Ayers appearance at the Purdue event.

"I assume he (Ayers) was invited because of his competency in
education," Targ said. "It is unfortunate that people want to protest
    this.

"If there is any hoopla, it will be extraneous. It was 40 years ago when
    he did this stuff."

For years, Ayers and other Weathermen were fugitives from the law,
although he was never convicted of a crime.

In his book, "Fugitive Days: Memoirs of an Anti-War Activist," he wrote
about the bombings of public buildings in the early 1970s.

Fagan, who called Ayers a "domestic terrorist," said he is working with
other local conservative groups to protest the visit.

"Our main objective is for everyone to know what Ayers is all about,"
Fagan said. "He can talk all about equality, but he wasn't concerned
about that when he was blowing up buildings."

I see no mention of SFPD SGT Brian McDonnell.

"Larry Grathwohl, an FBI mole within the Weathermen, connected Ayers to the planning — and his wife, Bernadine Dohrn, to the execution— of a police station bombing in San Francisco in February 1970 that killed one officer and injured two others."---David Freddoso, National Review Online (8-18-08)

Ayers and Doren should both be in prison.

I agree. And this newspaper is trying their best to make these DOMESTIC TERRORISTS to be seen in a better light. After all, they issued "evacuation notices" prior to blowing those buildings up. Well, that just makes it so much better. Ayers and Doren are terrorists and murderers. He has no remorse for what he's done and said he wished that he did more. Screw this guy. Who wants to give him a warm Purdue welcome?

As an alumni I just called the Development Center (donations) and told them to take my name off of all mailings and donations request and told her that I did not want to be associated anymore with someone who is willing to have a terrorist speak. She told me that someone from the Alumni center would call and talk to me about this. You never know, if enough alumni call and tell them we will no longer give any money if go threw with this, it may have him not come. Money talks.

Years ago I wrote a letter of protest to the IU Alumni Association when Angela Davis (Rambone, you're so young, you may need to google her!) spoke at IU Bloomington. Their reply was less than kind. In fact it was insulting. To this day they do not see my money.
Good luck with the Old Gold and Black.

Wow, her biography is pretty close to Ayres. Communist, murderer, radical. Escaped justice and now teaching our children.

Did she help Jimmy Carter get his campaign off the ground?
