Are there any classes around here that can teach you how to be a better shot?

I would like to be "taught" how to shoot vs a trial and error.

Are there any members that do that vs an expensive class with many students?

I am a member at the FCVCC in Pendleton.

    Thanks

    :+1:

Check out the training and tactics forum more for classes being announced. And most classes will give you a few drills to practice on your own. And the big difference isn't improving in the class that day a bunch, but rather remembering how to do the drill and the expected results. You practice that drill over and over and you'll improve.

Act has some excellent classes for this, I would definitely recommend their IP101 class :yesway:

    Paul,

Good on you for seeking out training before ingraining bad habits into your shooting. :yesway:

    First, a question for clarification.

What type of shooting are you wanting to be good at?

    Defensive shooting?

    Competition shooting?

    Hunting?

more for self defense....sure I can hit the paper from 10 yards back...but would rather be able to get a cluster of shots together near the bulls eye.

    Thanks!

If you go with ACT, I'd start with IP 101 (focus is Marksmanship), and then go into their Defensive Pistol classes

And do it while moving to cover under the influence of an adrenaline dump caused by the 300lb. monster of a person that just tried to make your children orphans, right? ;)

There's much more to self defense than being able to shoot bulls eyes.

If you are serious about self defense, come train with me at Mindset Lab.

In addition to the classes and instructors mentioned (which are all great ideas), you would also do well to start regularly attending local steel, USPSA, or IDPA matches. What the matches will teach you is gun and gear manipulation under the pressure of a clock.

Some may scoff at this idea, but for the $20 match fee, there are few places that present you with the opportunity shoot (1) multiple targets, (2) multiple scenarios, and (3) with shooters of all skill levels.

    Hello,
Welcome to INGO. I teach the IP101 for ACT. It is the place to begin the journey you are describing. If you want to get started before the spring classes begin we can do it one on one as private instruction. Just send me an email and we can start discussing times and locations.

ACT can also help you with your defensive pistol needs if you like what we have to offer at the IP 101 level.
    Thanks,
    Coach
